On The Recruiting Trail: Kyle Butz, MIF/OF, Moeller, 2016

Kyle ButzName: Kyle Butz
Position: MIF/OF
Grade: 2016
Height/Weight: 5-foot-9, 165-pounds
High School: Moeller
Ranking: 36th in Ohio’s 2016 Class

Evaluation: 5-foot-9, 165-pound thinner, athletic body frame with room still left to fill out with. From the infield he uses good, athletic footwork and moves well laterally covering good ground. He fields the ball out front with his hands cradling the ball into his body. He throws using a clean, short arm action from a ¾ slot reaching a top velocity of 73 mph across the infield. In the outfield he shows good footwork approaching ground balls, while fielding the ball out front near his left foot. He could incorporate more of a crow hop into his throws to increase his velocity from the position. He throws with a clean arm action coming through a ¾ slot while reaching a top velocity of 81 mph. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and uses a leg kick for added power, getting himself squared up to being back to even before he swings. He could get his landing foot down just a little bit sooner in the box. He uses a fluid hands back to shoulder load and showed good bat speed. His swing is short, with his hands moving right to the baseball, producing line drives in his round of batting practice while finishing his swing with a two-handed follow through. He showed the ability to use both sides of the field in two plate appearances during game at bats, flying out to left-field and flying out to right-field. He reached a top exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a blazing showcase best 6.50 60-yard dash.
