Ontario Insider: ProCase Notes - Defensive Standouts

By Chris Kemlo and PBR Staff
Ontario Scouting Director

We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario's inaugural ProCase event this past week. This was a great opportunity for the top prospects in the province to get out in front of 25 plus pro scouts with more than 60% of MLB teams represented. We wanted to run a pre-draft camp to make it easy for scouts to lock in on 2016 draft candidates as well, get a look at what is in store for the next few years from Ontario.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

Visit our scout blog, which includes velocity, pop times and in-depth scouting reports. The blog will be updated throughout the entire spring, with information on top prospects and top performances, click here.

Ontario Insider: ProCase Notes - Defensive Standouts

May 4th in Scarborough at Dan Lang Field played host to the top draft eligible players in the province for this year’s 2016 MLB draft, as well gave an insight to players who may find themselves preparing for their own draft day a few years down the road.

Along with post event articles from the day’s events, today we look at the defensive side of the ball as we locked in in on how guys moved and their athleticism, arm strength, their hands from a fielding perspective and overall caliber of play on the diamond. We break guys down separately into catchers, outfielders, and infielders.

The Catchers:

A strong group of talented catchers on hand for our ProCase. A lot of left-handed bats in the group as well, but we take a look at the quarterbacks of the ball diamond.

Luke Van Rycheghem, C, 2016
Scouting Report: Had a strong day overall. Tightened up his throwing since the Super 60 event in Chicago this past February. Was a 1.90 down to second as his best time, arm action was cleaner and shorter in the back, throws were around the bag with life out the hand, proper footwork involved that was cleaner and more concise, balanced on throws, received well in game and did good job with balls in the dirt.
