Ontario Insider: Team Ontario Day 3 of PBR Future Games

By Chris Kemlo and Dylan Hefflinger
Ontario Scouting Director and Ontario Editor in Chief/Scout

On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Ontario will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Ontario at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.

Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Ontario Insider: Team Ontario Day 3 of PBR Future Games

The Ontario 2015 Futures team split its two games today with a win against New England to kick things off while a tough, hard fought battle against Michigan saw them come up short 7-5. Below we recap highlights from each game with top standouts in the field, at the plate and on the mound.

Game 3: Ontario vs. Minnesota/Iowa

The final game of the Future Games was one that Ontario may have to keep a short memory about and try to redeem themselves in 2016. The opposition took advantage of base on balls and some plays that typically need to be made and never looked back.

Ontario’s starter Garner Spoljaric, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound 2017 showed a loose and easy arm action with some quickness out-front. He topped out at 84 mph and was able to bounce back after a first inning that saw him have to deal with three walks and two defensive errors. Spoljaric came back in the second and retired all four batters, with the second hitter reaching base on a passed ball strikeout. Garner attacked the zone and was able to work ahead, which allowed him to incorporate his slider more than he did in the first.
