Prospect I.D. - Top Overall Prospects

We began rolling out our analysis of the Prospect Identification Showcase this week. The event, which was held on June 14th, featured over 40 prospects from the state of Illinois. Today we conclude the event analysis by taking a look at the Top Overall Prospects from the event.

Below are the Top 5 Prospects from the Prospect Identification Showcase:

1. Brian Fuentes, C/SS, Crystal Lake South, 2017
5-foot-10, 178-pound physically advanced prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, rhythm and plate presence. Flashed easy bat speed, strength through contact; recorded a 93 mph exit velocity off of a tee. Long, uphill bat path, gap-to-gap approach and good balance through contact. Balanced stance, slightly open, smooth load and leg-kick timing trigger. Also, ran a 7.08 60- yard dash. Defensively, in the infield, Fuentes flashed high level hands, quick and fluid glove to hand transfers and moved well laterally. Throws clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. Behind the plate, Fuentes, impressed with his catch and throw ability. He consistently threw sub 2.0 pop times, ranging from 1.92 to 2.01. Comes from a high ¾ slot, short arm action, throws flashed carry, clocked at 76 mph from the crouch. High level prospect.
