Fall Top Prospect Games: Team Carbon Corner Infield Analysis

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

The PBR Tennessee Fall Top Prospect Games event took place at Lipscomb University on November 1 and afforded close to 60 players the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. Despite abnormally chilly conditions, some solid performances were turned in as some players established themselves as potential high-level prospects.

Below we take an in depth look at the group of corner infielders that participated on Team Carbon during the event. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also pitched at the event will have their pitching analysis featured in a separate article.

Colby Morgan, 1B, R/L, Boyd Buchanan HS, 2017
6-foot, 195-pound prospect shows next level projectability. Hits from a balanced stance, good load, good rhythm and balance, quick hands, 83 mph bat exit velocity, true middle of the line-up power potential, along with an impressive round of batting practice, Morgan finished game play with a 2-for-4 performance, posted a 4.71 home to first time. Soft handed fielder, uses 3/4 arm slot, quick, clean exchange, quick release, accurate throws, 74 mph arm velocity. Prospect to follow closely out of the 2017 class.

Braden Lott, 3B, R/R, Chester County HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect is a strong body type. Hits from a slightly open stance, short toe tap stride, explosive lower half, quick hands, 80 mph bat exit velocity, short, uphill swing path, flashes middle of the line-up power potential, good awareness on the bases, went 3-for-4 in game play with three sharply hit singles along with a solid batting practice round, ran 4.80 home to first time. 3/4 to high-3/4 arm slot, quick short arm action, 77 mph arm velocity, quick defensive instincts. Legitimate 2016 prospect to watch.

Cameron Wolfe, 3B/RHP, R/R, Baylor HS, 2017
6-foot-3, 160-pound prospect with a lanky frame and plenty of room to fill out. Hits from an open crouch with 79 mph bat velocity, gap to gap approach that should translate to power production down the line, long, uphill swing path, consistent batting practice round, 4.63 home to first time, was 0-for-4 in game play. Short, ¾ arm action, arm shows quickness, 80 mph arm velocity with accuracy. Relative strength gains should help improve stock at the next level. Interesting two way player to follow.

Charles Alvis, 1B, R/R, LaVergne HS, 2016
6-foot-5, 210-pound prospect with a big, strong frame. The right-handed hitter hits from a spread, weight back stance, good plate coverage, can go to all parts of the field, uphill path, good extension, middle of the line-up potential, 79 mph velocity off the bat, went 1-for-4 in game play with a single up the middle. Short arm action, high- ¾ arm slot, 76 mph arm velocity, good lateral movement, good reaction time. Prospect to follow with size and power projectability.

Tyler Higgins, 1B/RHP, R/R, Covington HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete hits from a balanced stance with short toe tap stride, good balance, uphill path, shows gap to gap power, shows bat quickness, 82 mph bat velocity, went 0-for-4 in game play. Uses long, high- 3/4 arm action, 70 mph arm velocity, accurate throws. 2017 who will hopefully continue to improve foot speed.
