A total of 40 players from around the country were selected to compete in the USA Baseball 15U National Team Trials in Cary, North Carolina last week with the hopes of making the final 20-man roster that will compete for the gold in Mazatlan, Mexico July 31-August 10.

Hugh Fisher, a 2017 LHP from Memphis University School, was the lone representative from Tennessee selected to participate in the trials last week, and his performance has landed him on the roster that will travel to Mexico.

Prep Baseball Report National Supervisor Nathan Rode was in attendance when Fisher took the mound on July 22, his first outing of the trials, and though he gave up seven hits and two earned runs in three innings of work, Rode said he showed the makings of a good arsenal of pitches.  Rode reported that Fisher’s fastball sat 85-86 mph with good sink to his arm-side while also mixing in an effective cutter.  The 6-foot-3, 165-pound lefty struck out four in his three innings of work.  Fisher pitched again in the final game of the trials on July 25 and recorded a scoreless outing.

The 15U National Team is continuing their workouts at the USA Baseball complex in Cary, NC this week.  They will play an exhibition game against the New England Stampede today at Duke Univeristy.  The team will head to Mexico later this week in preparation for Thursday’s matchup with Panama.
