By Matt Byrd
Tennessee Director of Scouting

The Preseason All-State Showcase took place on February 7 at Showtime Sports Academy in Franklin and proved to be the most talented group of players we have assembled since we began running events in the state in August.

With a total of 25 pitchers who took the mound at the event, we are going to break down the group of pitchers by class. All told, 13 of the 25 pitchers, which consisted mostly of 2016 and 2017 prospects, touched 80 mph or better.

The following is a look at the two unsigned seniors who took the mound for the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Both of these players also participated as a position player and will have those evaluations featured in a separate article with their position group.

Andrew O'Dwyer, 2015, Father Ryan HS, LHP
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound LHP has a strong and athletic frame, uses long arm action with a high-3/4 arm slot, O'Dwyer brings an athletic presence and likes to work fast on the mound, arm shows some quickness, his fastball ranged from 82-84 mph, maxing out at 85 mph and is mostly straight, his curveball varied between short 1/7 and 12/6 action ranging from 68-70 mph, throws a changeup at 76-77 mph with good arm speed that shows occasional cutting action.

Hunter Malone, 2015, Munford HS, RHP
The 5 foot 11,185-pound RHP uses shorter arm action with a high-3/4 arm slot, opens early at times, fastball shows arm-side run at 79-80 mph topping at 81 mph, Malone's curveball has gradual 12/6 action ranging from 70-73 mph and tended to be up in the zone, his changeup is his best secondary pitch and has some sink and fade at 73-75 mph, located the changeup at the bottom of the strike zone, showed average command of fastball and curveball.
