Under Armour Classic Preview: Dulins Dodgers

By Chris Fuller
Tennessee and Kentucky Director

Located in Memphis, Tennessee, Dulins Dodgers has been one the longest-running perennial power travel baseball clubs in the country. With top prospects from across Tennessee and several other southern states, the Dulins Dodgers will be competing in the Under Armour Classic on June 17-19 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. The UA Classic features 12 of the top 16U programs from around the country, each with a number of high level 2018/2019 prospects.

A look at some of Dulins Dodgers’ top prospects:

PITCHERS

Ryan Weathers - LHP
– An Alabama recruit, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect will lead a strong rotation for the Dodgers into the weekend.  He has been clocked in the upper 80’s with his fastball and has shown a solid breaking ball in the low to mid 70’s. Weathers is an Alabama commit and the son of former big-leaguer David Weathers.

John (J.R.) Langworthy - RHP – A Louisville recruit, the 6-foot-1, 198-pound Langworthy pitches in the mid-80’s with the potential to flash additional velocity at times.  He helped pitch his Siegel High School team to a state championship this spring. Langworthy has good upside and competes well on the mound.

Jacob Laws - LHP – 6-foot-6, 255-pound left-handed prospect was a two-way standout for Loretto High School all season long.  One of the few 2017's that will be playing in this tournament, Laws will bring a physical presence that you don't see every day.  He earned multiple awards at the conclusion of his junior season after hitting .425 and finishing 5-1 with 93 strikeouts on the mound.  Laws is still uncommitted.

POSITION PLAYERS

Tate Kolwyck – MIF – The 6-foot, 170-pound Vanderbilt commit will bring a lot to the table for the Dodgers.  Kolwyck helped lead the Arlington Tigers to the state championship game this past season and was a force at the top of their lineup.  Kolwyck is ahead of many guys in his class, as he seems to know the game very well and has a feel that is incredibly hard to teach.

Andrew Benefield - SS/3B – The 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitter is a very complete player and can hit the ball to all parts of the field with an advanced approach.  Expect the Louisville commit to share at least some time playing up the middle with Kolwyck, which could be a very tough duo to top.  Benefield runs well and will definitely flash some pop in the bat from time to time, as well.

Chase Phillips - C – 6-foot, 185-pound catcher will give the Dodgers stability behind the plate.  Phillips provides a pop time in the 1.91-2.03 range and some ever-valuable athleticism to the catching position.  Phillips is an aggressive, line-drive hitter that tries to stay very balanced and spray the ball to all fields in any count.

Hunter Goodman - UT – 6-foot-2,  195-pound catcher has the ability to play multiple positions.  Goodman held down the middle of the lineup for the state runners-up Arlington Tigers and was a leader for them all year.  He has some pop in his bat. Don't be surprised to see him play anywhere on the field.
