West TN Prospect Games: Team Royal Outfielders

The West Tennessee Prospect Games took place on August 16 at USA Baseball Stadium and afforded close to 50 players from around the state to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. The following is a look at the outfielders who participated for Team Royal at the event.

John Lyons, 2017, White Station HS, OF
The 6 foot 3, 185-pound prospect posted a 7.07 60 time and had a 79 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Lyons has long arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through the ball with athletic actions. Offensively, Lyons has fast bat speed from the left side and had a 84 mph exit velocity off the tee. Lyons hits from a balanced stance with a short leg kick involved, explodes from his lower half, has good balance, aggressive approach, a level path with good extension, line drive type hitter with flashes of power potential. Lyons went 2-for-4 in during game play and is a left-handed hitter to keep an eye on.

Timothy Wilson, 2018, Center Hill HS (MS), OF
The 5 foot 11, 155- pound prospect posted a 7.70 60 time and had a 77 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively, Wilson shows long arm action, shows some accuracy, has average arm strength, plays through the ball well on the ground, does a good job of setting up on fly balls and catching with momentum moving forward. Offensively, Wilson shows some bat speed from the left side of the plate and had a 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half well, has good balance, aggressive approach, level path, and is a line drive type hitter. Wilson impressed going 3-for-5 in game play with two singles and a double.  

Benton Garrison, 2016, Evangelical Christian, OF
The 6 foot 1, 170-pound prospect posted a 7.22 60 time and had a position velocity of 78 mph from the outfield. Defensively, Garrison has short arm action, has some accuracy, average arm strength, soft hands, fluid footwork, and shows good overall athletic ability in the outfield. Offensively , Garrison has fast bat speed from the left side and had a 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. Garrison hits from a balanced setup, loads back with front foot and has a short stride, uses his lower half, level path with a smooth swing with ease. Garrison is a line drive type hitter and went 1-for-4 during game play.

Ryan Lawrence, 2016, Briarcrest Christian, OF
The 5 foot 9, 197-pound prospect posted a 7.34 60 time and had a 73 mph position velocity from the outfield (75 at previous event). Defensively, Lawrence has long arm action, some accuracy with average arm strength, has some choppiness in footwork. Offensively, Lawrence has fast bat speed from the left side and had an 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. Lawrence hits from a balanced setup, has a smooth back load, short stride, explodes from his lower half, aggressive approach, short swing path with extension through contact, gap to gap type hitter with power ability. Lawrence went 0-for-4 during game play but had an impressive round of batting practice.

Hunter Davis, 2018, Gordonsville HS, OF
The 5 foot 9, 145-pound prospect posted a 7.59 60 time and had a 76 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively, Davis shows long arm action, some accuracy, average arm strength, and plays through the ball well on the ground. Has room to improve footwork on fly balls. Offensively, Davis has average bat speed from the left side of the plate and had a 79 mph exit velocity off the tee. Davis hits from a balanced setup, has a smooth back load, short stride, uses his lower half, good balance, level path with fluid rhythm, impressed in game play going 3-for-5. Davis is a young prospect to keep an eye on.

Braden Mileham, 2018, University School of Jackson, OF
The 5 foot 10, 155-pound prospect posted a 7.41 60 time and had a 76 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively, Mileham has shorter arm action, some accuracy, average arm strength with a slower exchange. Offensively, he showed above average bat speed for age from the right side and an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Hits from a balanced setup with minimal stride, hands start high and drop some to trigger swing, level swing path, line drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach. Mileham went 2-for-5 during game play.
