DFW Metroplex- Throughout the fall, PBR's staff will be on the road covering baseball across Texas. Games, workouts, practices, camps and more.  The "boots on the ground" philosophy of PBR is well represented with the coverage throughout the Fall of 2017. Here are the highlights from Week 5 of the Metro Scout League.

DBAT Griffin

2018 IF Wyatt Gaines (Guyer HS) went 1-for-5 with a walk and a double that he ripped down the third base line.

2018 C Carson Cheaney (Muenster HS) made hard contact in multiple at-bats on Sunday, going 1-for-6 with a deep fly ball to the left field warning track, a hard liner to short, a line drive to right field, and a double off the top of the left field wall.

2018 SS Hunter Grimes (Kerville Tivy HS) went 1-for-4 with a line drive single up the middle and reached base 4 out of 6 times.

2018 1B Sam Turnbough (Mansfield Legacy HS) showed quick hands at the plate, going 1-for-5 with a double down the third base line and a deep fly ball to right-centerfield.

2019 LHP Karson Kite (Amarillo HS) stands 6-foot-8, 210-pounds. The left-hander has a short arm stroke, and creates arm side run with good tempo down the mound. His fastball sat 77-80 mph, while his big breaking curveball was 60-63 mph. He had four strikeouts in two innings pitched. Mixed in a 66-70 mph changeup.

2018 RHP Kyle Quinn (Horn HS) stands 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. The right-hander showed excellent mound presence, and downward tilt on his 83-85 mph fastball with arm side run. Curveball was his best pitch at 69-73 mph, and he mixed in a 72 mph changeup. Punched out five in two innings.

2018 RHP Brock Taylor (Plano West HS) sat down five batters via the strikeout in two innings of work. Taylor stands 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, working from an over the top slot, his fastball ranged from 81-85 mph. His curveball had 12/6 shape at 74 mph.

2018 LHP Brady Ferguson (Krum HS) works from an over the top slot with a short arm stroke. His fastball sat 80-84 mph. Mixed in a slurve at 72-75 mph.

2018 RHP Alan West (Lewisville HS) has a smooth arm stroke with some life on his fastball at 86-88 mph. Throws both a four-seam and two-seam fastball, as well as a big breaking curveball with sharp 11/5 shape at 72-75.  

 

Academy Select

2019 IF Calvin Strandt (Wakeland HS) went 1-for-2 with a base hit bunt and a walk.

2019 C/IF Kaden Argenbright (Sulpher Springs HS) is a left-handed hitter that went 3-for-3 with a sharp liner to left field, a single over second base, and a double to left-centerfield where he took third base with heads up baserunning when no one was at the bag.

2019 C Joey Crisci (Allen HS) had two quality at-bats on Sunday. He battled with two strikes, saw nine pitches and drew a walk, then worked a 3-2 count and got a two-out RBI base hit.

2019 LHP Jack Hattrup (Plano West HS) sat 78-81 mph, and spun a sharp 12/6 CB 67-68 mph. Also mixed in a changeup at 71-74 mph.

2019 RHP Tim Wynia (Frisco Liberty HS) sat 85-87 with arm side run, loose arm swing from a ¾ slot. Also threw his changeup with late fade at 76 mph.


Ropes Martin 17U

2019 2B/SS Josh Acosta (Prosper HS) is an athletic “gamer” baseball player at 5-foot-6, 155-pounds. On Sunday, Acosta went 3-for-3 at the plate with a disciplined approach, reaching base five out of five times. He beat out an infield single with a hard-90, and recorded a delay steal to second base.

2019 C Jayden Drake (Frisco Centennial HS) showed good arm strength and blocking ability behind the plate.

2019 1B/RHP Zach McLaughlin (McKinney North HS) was 2-for-5 with an RBI-double. On the mound, the right-hander went two innings, he struck out four batters, gave up three hits, and walked one. McLaughlin works from a ¾ slot with his fastball ranging from 72-78 mph, and he mixed in a 61-64 mph curveball with 10/4 shape, and a 68-69 mph changeup.

2019 SS Jake Coleman (Reedy HS) is a 6-foot, 155-pound, left-handed hitter loose-strong hands. Coleman was 3-for-4 with a sac fly, a deep fly ball to left field, a triple, and two singles. He finished the day with three RBI, had a leaping catch to end an inning, and showed arm strength across the diamond from shortstop.

2019 1B/LHP Ian Walters (Argyle HS) is a strong 6-foot-4, left-handed hitter. He showed plus bat speed and the ability to throw the barrel, going 1-for-2 with a double that short-hopped the right-centerfield wall.
