Outlook:
Douglas Freeman is coming off of a spectacular 2014 season which saw them win Conference 11 and the 5A South Region before falling in extra innings in the 5A State Championship game to Hickory. The Rebels lost some key pieces from their 2014 squad in 1st Team All-State SS Jack Gerstenmaier (UVA) and closer Miller Trevvett (Radford), but return the rest of their pitching staff and other key pieces in 2015. The pitching staff will be led by again by starters Daniel Lynch (LHP, 2015) and Eric O’Brien (RHP, 2015). The lineup and defense will be anchored by Logan Harvey (C, 2015) who will be aided by fellow seniors Ethan Payne (OF, 2015), Travis Stackow (IF, 2015), and JT Bellotti (IF, 2015). The Rebels are extremely talented, with the ability to hit up and down the line-up and also pitch and play good defense. Assuming they can replace the leadership of Gerstenmaier, Douglas Freeman has to be again be among the favorites in 5A to be dogpiling in mid-June.
