Last week we came out with our fall update to the class of 2017 rankings. There has been much shifting around the ranks in our never-ending effort to determine the top prospects across the state. We have expanded from 150 to now the top 185 players. As with all rankings, they will continue to grow as we travel the state in search of  talent between high school / travel games, state events, and our own PBR VA/DC events. Today we take look into the rankings at the top newcomers.

Josh Plummer OF/RHP Hanover (Tennessee)
The Tennessee commit shows potential on the mound with is raw ability and a fastball that runs as high as 90 mph with not much effort in his delivery. Has a high ceiling as a pitching prospect.

Josh Jones INF Randolph Henry (James Madison)
Though a smaller school, Randolph Henry has shown a tradition of success in 1A baseball with two state championships and making plenty of appearances in the state playoffs. Jones is a sure handed infielder that can play short or third base with confident actions and clean hands and fluidity. Has a sound foundation as a hitter that should develop.

Yash Rane RHP St. John's College (Lehigh)
Rane is one of seven Division I signed or committed arms on the St. John's roster. Rane has a projectable frame with a fastball that been up to 87 and looks to have more in the tank.

1Jake Pecilunas RHP St. John's College (Towson)
Another of the St. John's deep pitching staff, Pecilunas pitches with a bit of effort up to 85 on the mound and has a sharp breaking ball that should contribute pretty quickly. That ability to spin it should give him a chance to contribute right away in college.

Will Knight SS Amherst Co. (VMI)
Part of a talented trio at Amherst County, Knight is an athletic middle infield prospect who plays with intent in the field. Knight could end up as one of the sleeper players from the 2017 class that should develop into a solid college player.
