Paul VI player Michael Coritz has committed to attend the Naval Academy in the fall of 2016. Coritz participated in the 2014 Top Prospect Games at Davenport Field on the campus of the University of Virginia last November. Coritz is the fourth member of Paul VI’s 2016 class to commit to a Division I school, joining teammates Devon Adams (C, Old Dominion), Clayton Baine (MIF, Radford), and Jack Cunningham (OF, Boston College). The Panthers had a solid 2015 season and return the bulk of their core in 2016 and they should have one of the better lineups in the WCAC this spring.

Coritz is 5-foot-9 and has an athletic frame.  At the plate, Coritz hits from a slightly wider stance with balance. Coritz had a very quiet rhythm, small load back, and a short stride to the baseball. All movements in the swing were smooth. He has a line drive stroke with the ability to use the entire field. Coritz has a short path to the ball and has leverage that creates backspin. In the field, Coritz had great actions and soft hands. He has great instincts and takes good angles to the ball. He has first step quickness and good lateral movement. He has the ability to be a plus defender at third and can make all of the plays.

When he arrives in Annapolis, Coritz should primarily contribute as a third baseman but could have the ability and skill set to be used up the middle. He will be a plus defender immediately and can be an effective hitter who uses the entire field to reach base. Coritz has the ability to develop into an elite defender who will hit for high average with some extra base power during his career.

Congratulations Michael!
