Prep Baseball Report VA/DC has updated its Class of 2017 rankings and expanded to the Top 25 players in Virginia/DC.  Here is a look at some of the players that took the biggest jump in the rankings.

players on the rise (listed alphabetically):

+Jack Darden, OF/RHP, Smithfield, 2017
Darden is very strong and can flat out hit a baseball. His exit velocity is in the upper 90s and he has power to all fields. He is athletic and has a strong enough arm to play either corner outfield spot. He is a three or four hitter at the next level with the potential to hit for a ton of power and a decent average.

+Connor Dopp, MIF/RHP, Glen Allen, 2017
Dopp has an athletic frame and has the athleticism to stick at shortstop at the next level. He has very good footwork and actions and an above average, accurate arm. At the plate, he has a square stance and is short to the baseball, spraying the field with line drives.

+Hunter Johnson, 3B, Liberty Christian Academy, 2017
Johnson is an elite defender at third base who is athletic enough that he could play an adequate shortstop. He has great first step quickness, a strong arm, and soft hands. At the plate, he currently has gap power and a line drive approach that should grow into home run power to his pull side as he matures.

+Evan Justice, LHP, Collegiate School, 2017
Justice is a projectable lefty that throws in the low to mid-80s with good angle and deception. As he fills out he should add velocity and his secondary stuff should improve as well. He has the ability to develop into a weekend starter at the next level.

+Will Liverpool, RHP, McLean, 2017
Liverpool has a live arm and sat in the mid to upper 80s in February. He also flashed a plus breaking ball. Liverpool has a lanky frame and he figures to add velocity quickly as he fills out and matures. His breaking ball should also improve with his velocity as it tightens up.

+Antonio Menendez, RHP, Herndon, 2017
Menendez is a tall, lanky righthander who throws from a low slot. He is particularly tough on right handed hitters with the angle that he creates. His fastball is now consistently in the mid-80s and touches as high as 87, with heavy sink. He also has a plus slider to go with his fastball.

+Nicholas Stewart, RHP, Rock Ridge, 2017
Stewart is a tall, projectable righty who represented PBR VA/DC at the Prep Baseball Report Futures Games in Indiana last July. Stewart is finally starting to grow into his velocity as he is consistently into the low to mid-80s with plenty more in the tank as he continues to mature. His breaking ball also has the potential to be a plus offering. During the high school season, he demonstrated the ability to pile up strikeouts with his swing and miss stuff.

+Will Thomas, RHP, Gonzaga, 2017
Thomas also represented PBR VA/DC at the Prep Baseball Report Futures Games in Indiana. He has an athletic frame and a loose arm action. He had a good high school season and he has feel for three quality pitches, a fastball that runs in the low to mid 80s with some run to it, a sharp 11/5 curveball, and a fading changeup.
