After 12 games and two scouting days over the past week at the 2016 Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball, the 40-man roster for the 18U National Team Trials was announced by USA Baseball following Sunday's gold-medal game.

Kyle Whitten

Osbourn Park righthander and University of Virginia commit Kyle Whitten was one of the forty players from all over the country selected to attend the National Team Trials in September. Whitten is a lanky righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action that is loose with a quick arm. In a March start, Whitten’s fastball had good plane and some late sinking action. It touched 87, sitting 83-86. He showed a late, 12/6 breaking ball that was 71.

During the Tournament of Stars, Whitten threw five innings across two appearances, allowing no runs and four hits. He struck out four and walked three as well.

Trials will run September 11-15 in Houston, Texas, when the 20-man 18U National Team roster will be finalized. The 40-man roster was announced following Team Brave's 4-0 win over Team Free in the gold-medal game Sunday on Coleman Field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

The 40 players selected for the trials roster came from a field of 108 athletes at the 2016 Tournament of Stars and previously invited athletes from the 2015 USA Baseball 17U National Team Development Program (NTDP) and National Team Identification Series (NTIS).
