On Sunday, February 22, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its second event of 2015, the Preseason All-State, for members of the 2016 graduating class. Over 80 players showcased their skills for PBR staff at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, Virginia. All of these players will be eligible to receive an invite to the Super 60, which is the premier professional scouting event for high school baseball players. The Super 60 is held annually in Chicago, Ill. on Super Bowl Sunday prior to their senior season.  Here are the best from the event...Here is our analysis of half of the pitchers from the event. Pitchers analysis: Preseason All-state

+Trey Alderman, RHP, Forest Park, 2016
2/22/2015-Alderman stands 6-foot and has an athletic frame. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters slot. He has a short, loose arm action and a quick armstroke that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and he strides out on line before landing a bit open and falling off as he finishes. Alderman pounded the strike zone with a straight fastball that sat 84-85. His slider had power 10/4 breaking action to it that ran 68-71 and has the potential to be a good pitch as his feel improves. He threw a change-up that he commanded well and had good armside run, sitting 74-77.

+Ryan Billy, RHP/CIF, C.D. Hylton, 2016
2/22/2015-Billy stands 5-foot-11 and has an athletic frame. He has a tilt and topple delivery with some rhythm and throws from a low three-quarters slot. He has a long, loose arm action and a quick armstroke that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed and he strides out on line before landing square and falling off a bit as he finishes. Billy’s fastball has hard run to it and sat 82-84, his command improved as his outing progressed. His slider has sharp 11/5 downer action to it and is thrown with decent armspeed that came in 70-72 and was down. His change-up had heavy sink and was kept down. It was thrown with decent armspeed, running 69-70.

+Michael Blanchard, RHP/1B, Nansemond River, 2016
2/22/2015-Blanchard has a lanky 6-foot-6 frame. He has smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. His arm action is long and loose and he has a quick armstroke that allows him to generate easy velocity. His shoulders are level and slightly closed and he strides out on line before landing square and coming to an athletic finish. Blanchard’s fastball sat at 81, touching 82, with heavy, late sink to it and he commanded the pitch well. His slider had late downer action with decent armspeed and ran 68-69. His change-up was very good and he commanded it well. It was thrown with full armspeed and armside run to it, coming in 72-75.

+Trey Braithwaite, RHP, Millbrook, 2016
2/22/2015-Braithwaite stands 6-foot-3 and has an athletic frame. He has a tall and fall delivery and throws from an over the top slot. He has a late hand break and a short, stiff arm action before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and he strides out closed before sweeping to a square landing and falling off as he finishes. His fastball was commanded well and had slight cutting action to it and ran 76-78, touching 81. His curveball had early, big break to it and 12/6 action that he commanded well, running 57-63. His change-up had cutting action, sitting 68-73.

+Spencer Buehler, RHP, Potomac Falls, 2016
2/22/2015-Buehler stands 6-foot-3 and has a lanky frame. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He has a long and somewhat stiff arm action before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are level as he strides on line to a slightly closed landing and falls off after he finishes. Buehler’s fastball had slight run to it, sitting 79 and touching 80. His command improved throughout his outing and was good by the end. His slider had big power 10/4 action to it and was thrown with a and stiff wrist, running 66-69. His change-up was thrown with cut and he commanded it well at the top of the zone, sitting 66-69.


+Coleman Duty
, LHP/1B, Goochland, 2016
2/22/2015-Duty stands an athletic 6-foot. He has a smooth tall and fall delivery and throws from a three-quarters slot with a long backside arm action, generating easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and he strides online to a square landing, falling off a bit as he finishes. Duty’s fastball sat 76-80, touching 82, with slight run to it. He threw a gradual breaking 11/5 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 60-68. He also threw a fading changeup with decent armspeed that sat 62-66. He commanded all three pitches well.


+Cody Forster
, MIF/RHP, Riverbend, 2016
2/22/2015-Forster stands an athletic 5-foot-9. He has a choppy drop and drive delivery and throws from a low three-quarters slot. He has a short arm action and a quick armstroke, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill, he strides out to a closed off landing and falls off after release. Forster’s fastball had heavy sink to, sitting 79-80 and touching 81. He threw a good slider with late 10/4 break and full armspeed that ran 68-70. He also threw a sinking change-up with full armspeed that ran 65-68. Forster commanded all of his pitches well.

+John Fuqua, LHP/1B, Indian River, 2016
2/22/2015-Fuqua stands an athletic 6-foot. He has a rushed drop and drive delivery and throws from an over the top slot. He has a long backside arm action and a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and his direction is on line with a slightly open landing before finishing in an athletic position. Fuqua’s fastball was heavy, sitting 80-81 and commanding the bottom of the zone. He threw a good, sharp 1/7 curveball with decent armspeed that sat 70-71. He also threw a fading, sinking change-up with decent armspeed that ran 75-76.


+Cole Gabriele
, LHP/1B, Tuscarora, 2016
2/22/2015-Gabriele stands an athletic 6-foot-3. He has a tall and fall delivery and throws from a three-quarters slot with a short, stiff backside arm action before a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are level and he strides on line before landing slightly open and coming to an athletic finish. Gabriele commanded his fastball well and it had slight run to it, sitting 75-79 and touching 80. He threw an early breaking 11/5 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 58-65 and was a bit erratic. He also threw a fading change-up with decent armspeed that was a bit erratic, running 61-68.

+Austin Gerber, RHP/OF, Patriot, 2016
2/22/2015-Gerber stands 5-foot-11 and has an athletic frame. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He has a loose arm action that has gotten longer, and he has a quick armstroke that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill as he strides out on line, landing square before coming to a complete finish. Gerber’s fastball had slight run to it and sat 80-82. His slider had sharp 10/4 break and was thrown with decent armspeed, coming in 64-67. His change-up is a plus pitch, thrown with full armspeed and heavy armside run and coming in 71-73. Gerber had good command of all of his pitches.

+Jacob Hand, OF/RHP, Briar Woods, 2016
2/22/2015-Hand has an athletic, 6-foot-2 frame. He has a choppy drop and drive delivery and throws from an over-the-top slot. He has a long, stiff arm action that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill as he strides out online, landing square before falling off a bit as he finishes. Hand’s fastball has late running and sinking action and sat 72-74. He threw a gradual breaking 12/6 curveball that he kept down that ran 63-66. He also threw a sinking change-up that ran 64-70.


+Teddy Herbert
, RHP/1B, Washington & Lee, 2016
2/22/2015-Herbert stands 6-foot-3 and has an athletic frame. He has some rhythm to his drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters slot. He has a long, loose arm action and a quick armstroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill as he strides out online before landing open and falling off as he finishes. Herbert’s fastball sat 79-82, touching 83, and had some run to it when it was down in the zone. His curveball had gradual 11/5 action and was thrown with decent armspeed, running 62-65. He threw a good change-up with full armspeed and it had armside run to it, sitting 71-74.

+David Holsapple, RHP, Hermitage, 2016
2/22/2015-Holsapple stands a lanky 6-foot-4. He has a smooth tall and fall delivery and throws from a three-quarters slot with a long, loose action that generates velocity with easy effort. His shoulders are uphill and he strides out on line, landing square before falling off as he finishes. Holsapple’s fastball had slight run to it, sitting 73-75. He threw a sharp 10/4 curveball with decent armspeed that ran 62-65. He also threw a fading change-up with decent armspeed that ran 63-69. He commanded all three pitches well.

+Jack Howell, RHP, Patriot, 2016
2/22/2015-Howell stands 6-foot-4 and has a lanky frame. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He has a long arm action with a bit of a wrap and has a quick armstroke that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill as he strides out on line to a square landing before recoiling after he finishes. Howell’s fastball sat 81-83 with hard run to it and was commanded well. His slider had sharp, hard 10/4 break to it and was thrown with full armspeed, running 70-75. He commanded his changeup well and threw it with full armspeed and sinking action while it ran 74-78.

+Grant Johnson, RHP/1B, Liberty Christian Academy, 2016
2/22/2015-Johnson stands 6-foot-2 with a strong, athletic frame. He has a smooth, tall and fall delivery and throws from a three-quarters slot with a short, loose arm action that generates easy velocity with a quick armstroke. His shoulders are level and a bit closed, he strides out on line and lands square before falling off at his finish. Johnson’s fastball sat 78-82, touching 83. He threw a sharp, 11/5 breaking curveball with decent armspeed that ran 63-67. He also threw a fading change-up with decent armspeed that ran 73-77.

+Tyler Jumper, RHP/SS, Robinson, 2016
2/22/2015-Jumper stands 5-foot-11 and has an athletic frame. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. His arm action is long with a bit of a wrap, and his quick armstroke generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and closed and he stays on direction before landing a bit closed and falling off while recoiling as he finishes. Jumper’s fastball had slight sink and run to it, sitting 81-82 and topping out at 83. He threw a gradual, late-breaking 11/5 curveball with decent armspeed that sat 68-70. He also threw a fading change-up with decent armspeed that ran 77-78. He worked down with all of his pitches, pounding the bottom of the zone with his fastball.
