On Wednesday, September 23, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC held the first of its Fall Open ID events, the Northern Virginia Open ID at Patriot High School. An abundance of talent was on display during the event, here are the pitchers that stood out above the rest:

+Antonio Buckley, LHP, Westfield, 2017
Buckley is an athletic lefty who throws primarily from a low three-quarters arm slot. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and a quick, loose arm that generates easy velocity. His fastball was 72-76 on the day. Buckley’s secondary pitches were outstanding, as he has the ability to throw a curveball and a slider that have different shapes and velocity from the same arm slot. The curveball ran 62-64 with sharp 1/7 break and the slider ran 67-68 with sharp 2/8 break. Buckley also threw a good changeup that had sinking action, good armspeed, and ran 67-70.

+Connor Campbell, LHP, St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes, 2018
Campbell has a smooth delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a quick arm action that generates easy velocity. His fastball had sinking action to it and sat 74-75, touching 77 on his last pitch. He threw a very good curveball with power 1/7 break as well as a good changeup with good armspeed that ran 61-64.

+Nick Fontana, RHP/IF, Osbourn Park, 2018
On the mound, Fontana has a smooth delivery and a quick arm that generates easy velocity. His fastball was 79-82 with late run. His curveball was very good, with sharp 11/5 break that ran 67-70. He also threw a changeup with very good armspeed that had armside run and sat 75-76.

+Garrett Lutkins, LHP, Potomac Falls, 2016
Lutkins throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a classic lefty crossfire delivery. He has a quick arm and generates easy velocity. His fastball has heavy run and was 76-78. He threw a late-breaking 2/8 slider that ran 66-70. His changeup was very good, running 70-75 with armside run and good armspeed.

+Graeme Wright, 3B/RHP, Paul VI, 2017
On the mound Wright has a smooth drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. His fastball has heavy run and was 80-82 with good downward plane. His curveball was good and had late, sharp, 12/6 break, sitting 69-71. He also threw a sinking changeup with great armspeed that ran 75-78.

+Sutton Young, RHP, Woodbridge, 2016
Young has a smooth delivery and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a quick, loose arm that generates easy velocity. Young’s fastball was 81-83 with heavy sink and a bit of run to it. He threw an outstanding curveball, with late, sharp, 11/5 break that ran 69-73. His command of both pitches was very good.
