On Wednesday, June 24, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted the Top Prospect Showcase-South at Nansemond River HS in Suffolk, VA.  Uncommitted 2016 graduates showcased their skills for various colleges and the PBR staff. Here is the analysis of the corner infielders that attended the event...

Matthew Holt, 1B, Nansemond River, 2016
Hit from a balanced and athletic stance that stood slightly open.  Smooth load back.  Smooth, controlled stride that stays on line.  Balance maintained throughout swing.  Good lower half drive to the baseball.  Explosive hands with a bat exit velocity of 95 mph.  Good approach to the round.  Swing path is short and level through the zone with good extension.  Fluid rhythm.  In the field, threw from high ¾ arm slot that was loose.  Throws were accurate.  Positional velocity of 74 mph.  Soft hands.  Footwork was slow and on heels.  Quick, clean exchanges.

Trent Taylor, 1B, Nansemond Suffolk, 2016
Hits from an athletic, balanced stance that is slightly open.  Smooth load back with an arm bar.  Short, controlled stride that stays on line.  Good balance throughout swing.  Average lower half drive to the baseball.  Bat exit velocity of 75 mph.  Good approach to the round.  Swing path is level with good extension.  Line drive hitter.  In the field, threw from a ¾ arm slot that was short and quick.  Soft hands with fluid footwork.  Quick, clean exchanges.  Played through the ball.  Very good around the bag.

Jarvis Donahue, 3B, Great Bridge, 2016
Hit from a balanced stance that was athletic. Stayed in his legs.  Smooth load back with excellent balance throughout the swing.  Stayed behind the ball at all times.  Had a great approach during the round with fluid rhythm.  Had a short and level swing with extension.  Had average hands with an exit velocity of 77mph.  Ball jumped off the bat better than exit velocity indicated. Good bat control.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was short and quick.  Throws were accurate and had carry.  Showed soft hands with a good glove presentation.  Footwork was fluid and exchanges were quick and clean.  Was able to get around and through the ball with athleticism.  Had a positional velocity of 82mph.

Cody Hart, 3B, Greenbrier Christian, 2016
Hit from a balanced, athletic stance that stood slightly open.  No load back with arm bar.  Long stride that stays on line.  Lower half works up out of stance.  Bat exit velocity of 81 mph.  Level swing path with good extension.  Rhythm gets stiff.  Line drive hitter that should find gaps from time to time.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that is quick and loose.  Throws had accuracy.  Positional velocity of 77 mph.  Soft hands with fluid footwork that played through the ball.  Quick and clean exchanges.  Athletic infielder.

Tyler Humphrey, 3B, Atlantic Shores Christian School, 2016
Hits from a tall, balanced stance that stood slightly open.  Smooth load back with a long stride that stays on line.  Good lower half drive to the baseball.  Average balance.  Good aggressive approach to the round.  Bat exit velocity of 80 mph.  Short, level swing path with good extension.  Line drive hitter who should consistently be able to find the gaps.  Fluid rhythm.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was loose and quick.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 79 mph.  Soft hands with fluid footwork that played through the ball.  Quick, clean exchanges.

Matthew Meyers, 3B, Portsmouth Christian, 2017
Hit from a crouched stance that was stacked on his backside.  No load back with an abbreviated leg kick stride that stayed on line.  Does not get back to center.  Average balance throughout swing.  Swing path works uphill.  Bat exit velocity of 75 mph.  Rhythm was robotic.  In the field, threw from a stiff, high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 70 mph.  Average hands.  Footwork was heavy and on heels at times.  Quick, clean exchanges.

Darren Ragaglia, 3B, Menchville
Hit from a wide stance that was athletic and balanced.  Loaded back with slight arm bar.  Short stride that stays on line and balanced.  Average balance throughout swing.  Drifts back to center.  Bat exit velocity of 78 mph.  Level swing path with extension.  Line drive hitter.  Robotic rhythm at times.  In the field, threw from a high ¾ arm slot that was long and loose.  Throws had some accuracy.  Positional velocity of 72 mph.  Average hands with quick, clean exchanges.  Footwork was slow and heavy at times.
