Game two at Haley Toyota Field in Salem, Virginia, pitted a powerhouse Turner Ashby Knights team against the upstart Riverside Rams. The Knights 14-3 victory came exactly ten years and a day after their last State Baseball Championship in 2007.

The Knight's Waring Garber got the starting assignment on the mound today and righthander Trey Campbell (UNC-Asheville) was on the bump for the Rams. Their job, win the Virginia 3A crown.

The Rams caught fire early in the first when lead-off hitter Carson Swank worked a walk and Robbie Ferreira replaced Swank on a fielder choice. Ryan Hoehn lashed a single, sending Ferreira to third, and, pitcher and clean up man scored Ferreira on a ground ball to second base. Catcher Aidan Koferl's RBI base hit plated Hoehn and the Rams had engineered a two run lead early on.

The Knight's played right back at the Ram's with two runs of their own. Tanner Moyers led off with a walk, Ross Detamore reached on a two out hit by pitch, and both players advanced on the same passed ball. Pitcher Waring Garber walked to load the bases and Kyle Eagle scored Moyers and Detamore with a clutch double, tying the score at two runs for both teams.

In the home second the Knights were at it again. Riverside's stating pitcher was lifted after one and one third innings, for lefty Wes Glass. Koice Quintanilla walked to start the frame, Moyers replaced Quintanilla on a fielder’s choice, and Jesse Showalter one out base on balls. Cody Warner's (VMI) double scored Moyers, followed by a two RBI single from Detamore, plating Showalter

Turner Ashby put six runs on the board in the fifth, including a two RBI double by Showalter and Riverside's chances were slim.

The Knight's Waring settled down from a rocky first inning and produced four scoreless innings, allowing two hits over that span. Meanwhile, the Knights were adding runs.

Riverside managed to add a run in the sixth when Nick Jones drove in Koferl who doubled early in the frame. However, it would not nearly be enough.

Waring threw a gutsy seven innings, surrendering six hits, two walks, three strikeouts, and a state championship banner in his pocket. Final score Turner Ashby 14 Riverside 3.
