Meet Colin Corey...

PBR:  At what point in your career did you become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Corey:  When I started at Shortstop my freshman year.  We play in a strong conference (Patriot District) in Northern Virginia and my first game being against the defending Virginia State Champions.

PBR:  What are you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Corey:  A coaching staff that is stable and has a good reputation. I would like for a solid coaching staff that will be honest about where I fit in with the schools program and what they expect out of me.

PBR:  What schools do you have interest in?

Corey:  I have not narrowed the schools down yet but I do have interest in George Mason University, William & Mary, Old Dominion, James Madison, Radford, UNC-Wilmington, and Coastal Carolina.

PBR:  What factors will sway your decision in choosing a college?

Corey:  Besides the academics, the location and size of the school.

PBR:  Where if any have you made visits to?

Corey:  I have visited George Mason, James Madison University, UNC-Wilmington, and Coastal Carolina. I have played travel games at Duke, Richmond, George Washington & Catholic University.

PBR:  What colleges have you been in contact with?

Corey:  My football season has just concluded, so I’m in the process of contacting numerous coaching staffs at a number of schools.

PBR:  Do you have any timetable as to when you are looking to make your decision?

Corey:  I would like to hopefully have a school picked by summer of 2015...

PBR:  What do you do in the off-season to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Corey:  I play Wide Receiver and Defensive Corner Back at Annandale. (2nd Team All-Conference at both positions). I lift up to 6 days a week – Continuously hitting of a tee, long tossing with teammates, and in the batting cage or fielding grown balls through the year to stay sharp.

PBR:  What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Corey:  Last year, my high school team (Annandale) beat Lake Braddock in Conference play which eliminated them after being Regional and State Champs the previous two years in Northern Virginia.

PBR:  How are your academics? GPA? ACT? SAT? Any academic awards?

Corey:  I am solid academically earning a 3.4 GPA in the first quarter.  I’m in the process of getting ready for SAT’s and ACT’s. I have received an International Baccalaureate Certificate from Fairfax County Public Schools. My sophomore year I was recognized for receiving a 3.5 GPA during the football season.

PBR:  How was your high school season last year? Team record? Post season awards? Stats?

Corey:  Annandale made the Regional Playoffs the first time since 2004 and won a Regional Game playoff game over Osbourn Park (top seed-Northern Virginia) for the first time for the school since 2000. I was 2nd team All-Patriot Conference Shortstop (1st team was All-Patriot Conference Player of the Year- Mike Smith at George Mason University).  I hit third in the line-up for most of the year and lead the team in RBI’s, while being second in batting average. My average was .467 in non-league games and .321 over all for the year. I pitched in a couple of games with a 1.909 ERA. Highlight was getting the win versus West Springfield (1st time school beating  them in 10 years). I also received the Atomic Achievement Award from the team for the 2014 season.

PBR:  Preview your high school season? How will your team be this year? Expectations?

Corey:  Our high school team should very competitive in Conference Play having built off of the successes of last season.  We started five (5) Sophomores last season and should have seven (7) Juniors staring this season. We have played together since little league and have worked hard for our final two seasons playing together.  We have been with our Head Coach (Dan Porter) who has coached us since 5th grade and he is expecting a lot from us and we are working hard to accomplish some high goals we have set.
