The Virginia/DC Underclass Preview was held on Saturday, February 18th at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, VA. 40 athletes from across the state were in attendance and performed in front of the PBR scouting staff. We began the evaluations process with our Stats Story and Rapid Reaction. Today our player analysis from the event turns to the pitcher analysis.

Top Performer

Khie Simms OF Clover Hill 2017 (Old Dominion) 
Simms is 5-10 with an athletic frame, hits from an upright open stance. Strides on line, loads back into wrap, good rhythm to swing. Short swing with a quick bat, slightly uphill path with extension. Line drive swing with gap power, slight pull tendency, exit velocity was 89. In outfield, good footwork, gets behind ball and plays through it with good hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short quick action, outfield velocity was 89. Ran a 6.93 60.

Future Watch

Shane Saunders OF Osbourn Park 2020 
Saunders is 5-5 and has an athletic frame, hits from a slightly open athletic stance. Strides on line with a smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Explosive hips and good balance to swing. Short swing, working slightly uphill, line drive swing now with power potential, good extension through the ball, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, gets behind ball and charges through it well, above average hands and very quick feet. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a quick arm, outfield velocity was 76. 60 time was 7.08.

Thomas Bilello C/OF Tallwood 2019 
Bilello is 5-9 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open wide stance. Heel lift stride, loads whole body back, hips rotate and maintains some balance during swing. Short level line drive swing, good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 75. In the outfield, ok footwork, average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, outfield velocity was 70.

Hunter Hoopes RHP/OF W.T. Woodson 2018
Hoopes is 6-1 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side with an open stance, short stride on line, smooth load back with a wrap. Some hip explosion and balance to swing, longer swing path, works uphill with extension through the ball. Pull approach, line drive swing with an exit velocity of 76. In outfield, gets behind ball well and plays through it, clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, quick arm action, outfield velocity was 89. Ran a 7.09 60.

Carson McCusker LHP/OF Fauquier 2019
McCusker is 6-0 with a lanky frame, hits from the left side from an open athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Short, level path with a quick swing and extension through the ball. Line drive swing with some pull tendency and gap power potential, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, gets behind ball well and plays through it, quick exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm, outfield velocity was 78.

Zak Plageman OF Patrick Henry-Ashland 2019
Plageman is 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits form the left side from a closed stance, short stride on line and smooth load back, good rhythm. Some hip explosion and good balance throughout the swing. Short, level swing path with extension through the ball, exit velocity was 83. In the outfield, good routes to ball, above average hands. Exchange is clean, throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, quick arm action with outfield velocity of 77.
