Over the last few months we have provided deep analysis of our Class of 2018 Rankings, highlighting the top uncommitted players in the class by position and spotlighting players deeper in the rankings. On Monday, August 7, PBR VA/DC will expand our Class of 2018 Rankings from 130 players to 175 players. We will also make updates to players that were already ranked to reflect improvements that we have seen throughout the spring and summer recruiting season.

We will update and expand the rankings again in November to reflect what we have seen in our Fall Events and on the road scouting.

SCOUTING REPORT

6.27.17:  Hoopes is 6-1 with a lanky projectable frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery. Long, loose arm action that is lightning quick, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 85-88, touching 89 with late run and good downward angle. Curveball had hard, sharp 11/5 break and some armspeed, running 64-67. Change-up had sink and some armspeed at 74.

2.18.17:  Hoopes is 6-1 with a lanky frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, quick arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed and finishes with a slight fall off. Fastball was 81-84 with some late run. Curveball had sharp 11/5 break and was 62-64 with some armspeed. Change-up had some armspeed and fade to it, running 72-75. At the plate, hits from the right side with an open stance, short stride on line, smooth load back with a wrap. Some hip explosion and balance to swing, longer swing path, works uphill with extension through the ball. Pull approach, line drive swing with an exit velocity of 76. In outfield, gets behind ball well and plays through it, clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, quick arm action, outfield velocity was 89. Ran a 7.09 60.

5.22.16:  Hoopes stands a lanky 6-0 tall with a projectable frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, loose arm action that is quick and generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed and he lands closed before an athletic finish. Fastball had late run, sitting 81-82 and touching 84. Sharp 11/5 curveball that he slowed his arm a bit on, running 62-63. Good armspeed on a change-up that ran and was 70-73. He hits from a wide stance with bent knees. His hands are back in stance and load with a slight front arm bar. He showed an exit velocity of 73 out of a long one handed finish.  From the outfield, Hoopes showed a plus arm at a positional velocity of 87. The ball came out quick and had carry and life as he played through it attacking the ball aggressively.

7.15.17:  Mayberry has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long loose arm action and easier effort. Shoulders closed and slightly uphill, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball had some sink to it, sat 85-88, touched 90 once. Velocity held 87-88 in first inning, was in the 85-86 range after a rain delay. Slider had late 10/4 break and was 70-72.

2.11.17:  Mayberry is 6-2 with an athletic frame and throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action pitching with light effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands closed, comes to a complete finish. Gets some lower half involvment and good backside drive in delivery. Fastball was 84-86 with late run and tilt when working downhill. Slider was 64-70 with late 10/4 break and near fastball armspeed that shows potential. Change-up was 70-74 with near fastball armspeed and sink. Projectable frame that shows more in the tank to throw harder.

3.15.16 - Mayberry’s fastball ran 81-84 and he showed a curveball that was 73. Mayberry should some toughness and ability to compete as he worked out of jams in each of the first two innings against a very tough Hanover lineup.

7.15.17:  Elder has an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. Shoulders level and closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish. Fastball had downward plane to it and sat 81-83, touching 84. Change-up had late run and good armspeed at 78. 12/6 curveball had late break, backed up occasionally, pitch was thrown with good armspeed at 72-76. Also hits from right side and has some batspeed and a short swing with gap power potential.

6.1.17 - Projectable body with some length. Pitched 82 -84 for Great Bridge with later life on his pitches. Shows great command of his change up with late fade and fastball arm speed. Showed command of breaking ball and used that more as a show pitch using a nice combination of his fastball and change, keeping hitter off balance.

7.15.17:  Moyers is 6-0 and has a lankier athletic frame. Hits from the left side, short line drive swing with some batspeed, uses whole field well. Has some speed on the bases. At short, clean footwork, average hands and a clean exchange, smooth rhythm fielding ball. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with average arm strength.

5.24.16:  Moyers hits from the left side and has a lanky frame. He has some quickness, running a 4.4 on a ball he leaned over the plate for. Leg kick stride, loads into a wrap, and dives over the plate with his stride. Has a quick bat and is short to the ball.

6.27.17:  Sanchez is 6-2 with an athletic frame and a stronger lower half, he hits from the right side with an open athletic stance. Short stride on line and minimal load back, good rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and good balance to swing. Very short to ball, quick hands and a quick bat. Level line drive swing, pull tendency, has some power to pull side, exit velocity was 87. In the outfield, quick clean footwork, gets behind ball and plays through it, above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action, ball has some carry and accuracy, outfield velocity was 90. Home to first time was 4.12.

6.1.17 - Righty was 86 -88 in the first inning for Lafayette, with a big hard breaking ball up to 78. shows potnetial as a put away pitch, but was inconsistent with command. After the first was 83-87 through the game. Projectable body and shows to have more in the tnak. Pitches with effort.

SCOUTING REPORT

7.15.17:  Walton has a strong lower half, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and normal effort. Shoulders level and closed, lands square and falls off while recoiling. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84 with late run. Pounded the zone to both sides of the plate with fastball. Slider was 69-72 with late 10/4 break, got swing and misses with the pitch. Showed a sinking change-up during warmups.

5.15.17: Build up delivery throwing from a ¾ slot. Solid frame. Used steady mix of fastball and a sweeping breaking ball with depth and gradual action. Fastball was 78-80 touching 81. Breaking ball was 64-67 and showed lot on confidence in the pitch. Showed pop at the plate with more of a pull approach and some pop, getting two hits on the day with a level path at the plate.
