The Midwest Future Games has proved fruitful for many of the Wisconsin players as they represented their state for the first time at the third-annual event for incoming juniors. Brendan Meissner, a RHP from West De Pere HS, was the first official beneficiary from Team Wisconsin. Brendan Meissner

On the Wednesday following the Midwest Future Games, Meissner made his college commitment to the University of Illinois. Meissner is the first participant of this year’s event to make his college commitment, and is also the first Wisconsin 2015 graduate to come off the board.

Meissner looked sharp in Bloomington, IN, working two innings of scoreless baseball. His fastball topped out at 87 mph over the course of two days and showed advanced action on his low-70s curveball. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is an extremely athletic pitcher whose arm works cleanly and athletically. Meissner throws a high-volume of strikes and has a durable frame.

Meissner made an unofficial visit to Illinois in late July and said he fell in love with the school.

"Illinois is the perfect fit for me,” he said.

Throughout the recruiting process, Meissner said, “I wanted to stay in the Midwest.” He said that Illinois' studies aligned with his future goals.

“Illinois has a great Kinesiology department, Meissner said of his intended major.

Meissner plays for the GRB Rays in the summer and credits his coaches for his development.

“Greg Reinhard and Max Cordio played critical roles for me in the recruiting process and I owe them a lot of credit for the success I’ve had,” said Meissner.
