APPLETON, WI – Appleton North took on their crosstown rival on Tuesday facing Appleton East. The Lightning brought their sticks putting up 17 runs in six innings to beat the Patriots 17-5.

Appleton East got on the board and briefly took the lead on back to back doubles by Kamden Gahr (2013) and Michael Strauss (2013). East threatened to score again after a two out line drive base hit by Taran Tierney (2013), but a runner caught in no man's land between third and home was gunned out trying to return to third by North shortstop Alex Henwood (2015).

Appleton North took control of the game in the fourth inning. Connor Rolain (2014) led off with a full count single followed by Keegan Kreul (2014) who reached on an error. After a North strikeout to get to two outs, Rothbauer hit a full count fastball over the left field wall for a grand slam. Rothbauer got to the 3-2 count after sitting tight on a very close 1-2 slider that looked to be a strike. Then a misplayed popup in foul territory kept his at bat alive.
