Class of 2016 Rankings Updated and Expanded

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

With the Future Games coming up next week we take a look at the updated 2016 rankings in Wisconsin. Several Future Game attendees highlight the top 25 and a new No. 1 tops the list.

Justin Lavey (Tremper) was the No. 1 prospect for eight of the last 12 months and has put himself back into the top spot overtaking Gavin Lux (Indian Trail) who was limited to DH duties most of the spring with some arm soreness. Lavey’s bat has looked strong this summer showing pop to all fields, he has gotten bigger and stronger and looks to be solidifying himself as a high end hard hitting third baseman. The top of the 2016 class is loaded with premium prospects including Ben Rortvedt (Verona Area) and LHP Jack Eagan (Wautoma) who has touch the 90 mph mark earlier this summer.

Much of the rest of the top 10 has stayed the same. Eau Claire North switch hitting shortstop Adam LaRock has stormed onto the scene this summer and will also be participating in the Future Games next week. LaRock is the highest newcomer to the rankings at No. 11 featuring a wide range of tools.

Other newcomers in the top 50 include OF Jackson Hoang (Pewaukee), LHP Hunter Van Zandt (Parker), Zach Gilles (McDonnell Central), RHP Marquis Reuter (Sun Prairie), SS Ivan Monreal (Middleton), C Cody Cline (Fall Creek) and SS Lucas Maurina (Altoona).
