The Hitters’ Spring League managed to get on the field again this weekend despite the wet conditions. Carthage College played home to four games on Sunday April 21 as the brand new turf infield took on the rainy weather with ease.

Here’s a recap of scores and stats from Sunday’s match-ups.

Carolina Blue 2, Gold 2
Jack Kinzer (Port Washington, 2016) went 1-for-3 with a double that drove in both runs for Team Gold. The freshman catcher has been showing above average pop to his pull side, beating the outfield defense with a wood bat on a weekly basis.

Ty Weber (Menomonee Falls, 2016) pitched five strong innings for Team Gold, racking up five strikeouts without allowing a run. His short over the top arm action is tough for hitters to pick up.

Owen Miller (Ozaukee, 2015) was 1-for-3 with a triple for Carolina Blue, also scoring a run. Miller is showing excellent glove work defensively as well, playing all three infield positions, Miller is showing versatility and lateral movement while being able to play athletically while on the move.

Jonathan Stiever (Cedarburg, 2015) is showing well on the mound this spring. He tossed four innings of two hit baseball without allowing a run. His ¾ arm slot is consistently producing a sinking fastball which opponents are beating into the ground.

Carolina Blue 8, Gold 0
Doran Turchin (Oak Creek, 2015) led the attack for Carolina Blue. Turchin went 2-for-3 driving in four RBI. Turchin is showing a high level of athleticism at the dish and making hard contact.

Alex Elliot (West Allis Hale, 2015) banged out three hits including two doubles and an RBI. Elliot is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound left handed hitter who shows occasional pull side pop.

Nickolas Lackney (Whitefish Bay, 2015) went four innings giving up just one hit in the process. The 6-foot-5 southpaw struck out seven showing excellent command recording many of those strikeouts looking.

Nathan Veloz (Oak Creek, 2015) picked up where Lackney left off and recorded five strikeouts of his own in three innings of work. His heavy fastball continues to beat hitters at the bottom of the zone.

Navy 4, Red 2
Evan Kruczynski (Franklin, 2013) looked sharp again working six innings and striking out 14. The East Carolina commit scattered just three hits and did not walk a batter. Kruczynski has been showing pinpoint control this spring. If he can carry that on to East Carolina he will find himself making an impact right away as a freshman.

CJ Putterman (Nicolet, 2013) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Josh Serio (Whitnall, 2013) brought a hard and heavy fastball but his four walks led to two runs scored. Serio also struck out five in four innings. Serio is a Heartland Community College commit.

Taylor Grimm (Cedarburg, 2014) is continually making hard contact. Grimm hit a solo shot off of the near untouchable Kruczynski in the fifth inning.

Navy 5, Red 5
Brett Krause (Menomonee Falls, 2013), Jake Erfourth (Homestead, 2013), Dakota Slone (Oak Creek, 2013) and Nicholas Sotiros (West Allis Hale, 2013) all hit doubles. Krause and Sotiros drove in two RBI while Erfourth had one.

Nick McLees (Marquette, 2014) went 2-for-3 with a walk for Team Red. McLees is an undersized athlete who shows some quick twitch actions and above average bat speed at the plate.

Tyler Sanchez (Round Lake, 2015) went four innings without allowing a run, he stuck out four and walked two in the process.
