GREEN BAY, WI - Bay Port won a battle of two of the top teams in the Fox River Classic Conference on Friday when they defeated Notre Dame, 7-1.

The first place Pirates came into the game undefeated in conference play, while the Tritons, who were tied for second, carried a conference record of 11-5. In their only prior meeting this season, the Pirates won 8-4 in extra innings.
Connor Hock
Bay Port pitcher Connor Hock dominated Notre Dame’s hitters throughout the game. The University of Notre Dame commit often worked ahead early in the count, which put the Triton hitters in a hole all day.

Bay Port opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning via an RBI single by Joe Baier. A wild pitch from Notre Dame pitcher Ty Yewman allowed another run to score in the top of the 3rd inning.

The fourth inning was not kind to Notre Dame, and proved to be the turning point of the game. Quinn Pierner gave the Pirates a three run lead in the frame with an RBI groundout before his team really started to pile on the pressure.

With the bases loaded, both Baier and Tucker Noe drew walks to push two more runs across and Troy Albrecht hit a sacrifice fly to give Bay Port a six run cushion with Hock dealing on the mound.

Hock’s overall effort totaled 10 strikeouts in six innings of work. He only surrendered three hits in the outing. With few opportunities to drive in any runs, the Tritons’ offense struggled to produce much of a fight.

Bryce Braspennickx came in to pitch the bottom of the 7th for Bay Port. The Tritons broke up the shutout with a two out rally and the help of some sloppy defense on Bay Port’s part, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the overall deficit.

Yewman pJoe Baieritched 3.1 innings, allowed five runs, and picked up the loss on the mound for Notre Dame. Eric Erb pitched the last 3.2 innings of the game and allowed two runs.

Baier finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. Logan Froberg and Andrew Woeslaw also had two hits for the Pirates. Connor Yakel, Charlie Rotherham, and Nick Martzahl collected the Tritons’ only hits in the game.

The Pirates moved to 20-3 this spring, while Notre Dame fell to 14-9.
