BURLINGTON, WI – No. 2 Indian Trial won the non conference pitchers duel with No. 22 Burlington 3-2 in eight innings on Monday afternoon. Burlington started No. 4 ranked 2017 Jacob Lindemann, who has been dominating this season and Indian Trial countered with Junior Nick Elsen.

With some high ranking scouts in attendance to get a look at 2016 shortstop Gavin Lux of Indian Trail against one of the top 2017 arms in the state. Lindemann allowed just two unearned runs over six innings striking out six, walking two, and surrendering five hits. His fastball worked in the 87-89 range early on the outing, reaching as high as 90 mph. Elsen matched Lindemann over 6.2 innings allowing just two runs on six hits.

Tied at 2-2 in the top of the eighth Gavin Lux started the inning with an infield single, and advanced to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Demons reliever Zach Campbell got Kyle Antos to ground out to short to keep Lux at third. Three-hole hitter Dylan Shore squeezed Lux in to give the Hawks the 3-2 lead.

Burlington got on the board in the bottom of the first when Bryan Sturdevant doubled with one out, advanced on a balk, and came around to score on a single by Aaron Mutter. Indian Trail then took the lead in the fourth when Nick Elsen scored on a passed ball and Ryan Hoerter scored on an error.

Trailing by a run in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and nobody on base the rally started for the Demons. Aaron Mutter took a fastball from Elsen and drove it off the wall in centerfield for a double and came around to score on a single by Dale Damon. After a single by Aaron Sturdevant, Elsen was chased from the game and in came Kyle Antos. Antos struck out Tanner Strommen to end the threat. He then went on to work a perfect seventh and eighth to pick up the win for the Hawks.

No. 2 Indian Trail moves to 10-1 on the year and returns to Southeast conference play tomorrow at home against Horlick. No. 22 Burlington drops to 8-3 on the year and plays Union Grove tomorrow at home.
