No. 9 Kimberly 3, No. 5 Appleton North 2

KIMBERLY, WI – Offense was scarce in this one as two of the better arms in the FVA squared off in a fight for first place in the conference. A great pitching matchup was headlined with two of the best in the conference with Kent State commit Connor Wollersheim (Appleton North) and Brice Swick (Kimberly). Base running and pitching was the ticket in this Power 25 matchup of top ten teams, as Kimberly came out on top 3-2.

Coach Ryan McGinnis got the Papermakers going on the base paths. In the first inning Kimberly put the first run of the game on the board with a great first and third forced pick off play to first base with the southpaw Wollersheim on the mound, allowing the runner from third to score on the pickoff.

Then again in the bottom of the sixth inning Kimberly's base running gave the Papermakers the lead. With runners at first and second in an obvious bunt situation, Appleton North put on the wheel play and after a failed bunt attempt on the first pitch, McGinnis saw that and followed it up with a double steal that worked like a charm getting the tying and go ahead runs into scoring position both of them eventually scoring to seal the win for Kimberly.
