Power 25: Week 1 Notes

The WIAA Spring Season is finally getting underway with most teams having played at least one game. This week we updated the records for the Preseason Power 25 and will update the Rankings next Monday, as some teams have yet to play a game. Today we start our weekly look around the Power 25 with notes, highlights and upcoming matchups.

  • No. 9 Burlington, No. 12 Tremper, and No. 19 Wilmot have all yet to play a game so far.

  • No. 2 Indian Trail opened its season with a convincing 10-0 win over No. 7 Westosha Central. Auburn commit Ryan Hoerter struck out 10 in four innings of work, allowing just one hit.

  • No. 3 Eau Claire North opened up the season with a 5-0 start and showed they are one of the top offensive teams in the state with a lot of team speed especially at the top of the order.

  • No. 4 Kimberly opened its season with a three game trip to the Southside of Chicago. On Friday they opened the season with a big win over PBR Illinois No. 5 ranked team Brother Rice.

  • No. 5 Oconomowoc and No. 10 Arrowhead matched up on Thursday and Friday in a Wisconsin Little Ten matchup. On Thursday Oconomowoc ended Arrowhead’s 34 game conference win streak with a 6-2 victory. Arrowhead bounced back on Friday with a 2-1 victory.

  • No. 6 Sun Prairie is off to a 4-0 start and will be tested on Tuesday against No. 1 Janesville Craig.

  • No. 14 Eau Claire Memorial started off 3-0 at the Woodside High School Challenge.

  • No. 17 Catholic Memorial is 2-0 on the year. The pitching staff in 14 innings of work has allowed only two hits and struck out 31.

  • No. 25 Coleman has started the season 5-0 and has outscored opponents 65-10.

The Week Ahead: Matchups

  • Monday: No. 9 Burlington travels to No. 2 Indian Trail

  • Tuesday: No. 6 Sun Prairie travels to No. 1 Janesville Craig, No. 18 Stevens Point at No. 13 Wausau West

  • Thursday: No. 5 Oconomowoc vs. No. 17 Catholic Memorial
