Power 25: Week 5 Update

By Matt Huck
Area Scout

Week 5 of the Power 25 update sees some big changes. Eau Claire North (12-1) and Green Bay Preble (15-0) remain undefeated in Wisconsin and move into the No. 1 and No. 2 spot, respectively. Neither team has a big win on their resume yet this season, but both teams have a chance to separate themselves with the upcoming schedule.

Eau Claire North has a tough six game stretch coming up with No. 10 Chippewa Falls (12-2), No. 13 Wausau West (10-2), No. 15 Eau Claire Memorial (13-3). Preble has an upcoming series with an improved Bay Port (10-8) team that has won seven of their last nine games and take on Sheboygan North coming up the following week.

Let’s take a look around the Power 25 with notes and upcoming matchups.

  • Janesville Craig (13-2) drops to No. 3 after a walk-off loss on Saturday to now No. 4 Sun Prairie (13-4). Craig and Sun Prairie split the season series with the home team winning each game.

  • Tremper (11-2) dropped a spot this week after losing a game to Westosha Central, while Sun Prairie leap frogged them after their big win over Janesville Craig.

  • No. 11 Catholic Memorial (10-2) jumped four spots after sweeping then No. 19 Watertown (10-5) this week. The Crusaders pitching has been dominant this season, only once has the staff allowed more than two runs in a game.

  • Oconomowoc (11-3) dropped three spots to No. 9 after losing their only game of the week to Beaver Dam.  It was about this time last year that the Racoons dropped 9 of their last 13 and limped into the playoffs. The remainder of their schedule is a little more favorable than last year, so don’t expect to see a repeat performance down the stretch.

  • New additions to the Power 25 are Luxemburg Casco, who is 16-2 on the year. Madison West breaks into the Power 25 at No. 24 sitting at 11-4 on the year and plays in one of the toughest conferences in the state, plus a win over No. 3 Janesville Craig on their resume. Tomah is the new No. 25 team, with a 10-3 record and a win over No. 10 Chippewa Falls.

  • Fond du Lac, Indian Trail, and Whitewater dropped out of the Power 25 this week. Preseason No. 2 Indian Trail is currently at a crossroads sitting at 6-5 on the year. Ryan Hoerter has been lights out but the offense and rest of the pitching staff is struggling. Whitewater had an 0-4 week to drop to 10-5 on the season.
