By Steve Nielsen

The Wisconsin high school season kicks off on March 31, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on March 23, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Throughout the month of March we will be counting down our Preseason Power 25 Team Rankings leading up to the No. 1 team right before opening day.

No. 24 Freedom

2014 Record: 20-6
WIAA Classification: 2
Conference:
Eastern Valley
Head Coach:
Adam Fox
2014 Playoff Run:
Sectional Finals

TOP PLAYERS

Kody Theobald, C, 2015
Justin Scoville, OF, 2015
Scott Ebben, MIF, 2015
Tyler Behle, SS, 2015
Brandon Desotell, RHP/OF, 2015

UP AND COMING

Josh Kunstman is a sophomore Irish who could earn varsity playing time this year. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound two-way player shows good aptitude with the bat and strike throwing abilities on the mound.

OUTLOOK

The Irish and Coach Fox won the Eastern Valley last season, typically not a baseball powerhouse some may think we’re taking our chances putting them in our Preseason Power 25, but last year’s Sectional Finals team only lost one impact offensive player and the Irish look to be on the upswing. They return three all-conference seniors in Theobald, Behle, and Desotell, including a total of five seniors who have been varsity contributors since their sophomore year. Senior catcher Kody Theobald, still uncommitted, is easily the best catch and throw defender in that conference and as long as his pitchers give him a chance should be able to provide an impact by shutting down the running game day in and day out. 2015 is probably the best chance Freedom has had in a long time to make it to Appleton, and if they can find enough pitching they should be one of the favorites in Division 2.
