Preseason Preview: Jefferson High School Eagles

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

In today’s preseason preview we will be highlighting the Division 2 Jefferson Eagles. Coach Fetherston of the Eagles put together a solid season in 2012 finishing 21-6 overall and winning the Rock Valley North Conference with a 9-1 record. After a disappointing 2-1 loss to Mount Horeb in the regionals, Coach Fetherston will look to take the Eagles deeper into the playoffs in 2013.

With six returning starters on the field and three on the mound the Eagles should have plenty of experience returning to the field for 2013. Four of those returners were all-conference selections a year ago. Coach Fetherston is excited about his team on the mound along with his defense and depth in the roster.

Heath Renz is a junior pitcher who missed his entire sophomore season due to an ACL injury. Renz is expected to be an impact guy on the mound for the Eagles in 2013 along with Kevin Krause who was a 2nd team all-conference selection in 2012.

Offensively the Eagles will be relying on the bats of Roby Schlesner, Tanner Johnson, and Zeke Emerick, all of whom are returning all-conference selections.

Also, sophomores Nick Schrader and Jared Nelson could have a big impact for the Eagles this season. Schrader is the returning shortstop who hit .275 as a freshman and received all-conference honorable mention. We have recently seen Nelson display a 2.05 pop time and an athletic arm behind the plate. The sophomore receiver could keep the running game in check this season for the Eagles.

Coach Fetherston and the Eagles will be looking to repeat as conference champs and take their playoff run even deeper in 2013.
