Senior Games: Infield Analysis

Infield analysis is next as our Senior Games coverage continues to roll. Several standouts defensively showed well as middle infield type prospects, as well as some more physical corner infield profiles that look to be middle of the order type bats. Here’s a look at the top infield prospects in alphabetical order.

Kyle Abatto, MIF, Kettle Moraine, 2018
5-foot-7, 160-pound middle infielder, solid stocky build. Left-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, simple approach, stays balanced. Fluid hitter with bat speed, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively profiles at second base, reliable hands, average range. Arm action is long from a high ¾ slot, 72 mph across the diamond. 4.65 runner in the 60.

Justin Baker, 3B, Waukesha West, 2018
6-foot-2, 240-pound third baseman. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, good balance. Shows bat strength, pull side power approach, bat speed present. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action plays over the top, clean exchange, profiles at a corner infield spot. 79 mph across the diamond. 4.93 runner down the line.

Sam Beers, INF, Milton, 2018
6-foot-3, 174-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick trigger. Loose hands, ball comes off the bat well, backspin contact. Gap to gap approach with bat speed. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively attacks the baseball, plays through aggressively with good angles, hands showed soft actions. Arm action is loose, 72 mph across the diamond. 4.92 runner home to first.

Teig Chase, RHP/INF, Kettle Moraine, 2018
6-foot-1, 190-pound two-way player, solid build. On the mound delivery is on line, some effort, short over the top arm action. Fastball showed cut action at times, 78-80 mph, worked downhill in warmups. Curveball played 12/6, casted at times, occasional bite when out front, 65-68 mph. Straight changeup, near fastball arm speed, 70-73 mph. Right-handed hitter, tall open stance, short stride to square. Showed bat strength, level path, some bat speed. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, 76 mph across the diamond. Will play tall through the baseball at times, sure hands.

Gino D’Alessio, 3B, Pius XI, 2018
6-foot-4, 200-pound third baseman. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride. Simple approach, hard contact off the bat, hands work easy swing. Line drive gap to gap type approach, level path with bat speed. 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. 1-for-2 with hard RBI single up the middle. Arm played at 80 mph across the diamond, short over the top slot. Plays through the baseball, clean hands, corner infield profile. 4.61 down the line.

Garrison Ferone, MIF, Shorewood, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound switch-hitting middle infielder, athletic build. Hits from an open stance, short stride, good balance. Path is flat from the right side, slightly more uphill and pull approach from the left side. 83 mph exit velocity from the left side, 79 mph from the right. 4.47 runner down the line from the left side. Defensively plays with some effort and shows athleticism, ranges well to glove side. Arm action plays high ¾, long action, showed carry, 84 mph across.

Brady Fields, RHP/3B, Badger, 2018
6-foot-2, 185-pound two-way player, lean frame. On the mound delivery plays on line, squared landing. Arm action is long from a high ¾ slot, loose arm. Fastball is mostly straight, showed control, 79-81 mph, occasionally cut at 76-78 mph. Curveball showed depth at times, 67-70 mph. Struck out two in one inning of work. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, lower half worked. Middle of the field approach, line drive type contact, 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Drove a triple deep to left center in game. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 82 mph across the diamond. Profiles at third base, average hands and feet play through the ball. 4.82 runner down the line.

Daniel Hahn, MIF, Cudahy, 2018
5-foot-6, 138-pound middle infielder. Defensively hands played soft, second base profile, exchange is clean and plays through the baseball. Arm action is short and over the top, 79 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride. Path is short, line drive singles type hitter. 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.34 runner home to first.

Tristan Largent, 1B, Verona, 2018
6-foot-1, 230-pound left-handed hitting first baseman, strong thick build. Hits from a tall open stance, short stride, maintains strong balance. Carries pop in bat, strong hands, pull side power approach with bat speed. 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively shows natural feel around the bag, soft hands. Arm plays at 74 mph across the diamond, short over the top slot. 4.76 runner down the line.

Daniel Marrero, MIF, University School of Milwaukee, 2018
5-foot-8, 130-pound middle infielder, smaller frame. Hands played soft, athletic actions played through the ball with footwork, clean exchange. Profiles at second base, arm is clean 77 mph across, can play at multiple angles. 4.94 runner down the line. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, leg kick trigger, average balance. Swing shows some effort, pull side tendencies, 76 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Jack McGee, INF, Greendale, 2018
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Hits from a tall setup, open stance, long stride to even, rhythm load. Loose hands, some effort, path is level through the zone. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed clean rangy actions on the infield. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 80 mph across the diamond. 4.69 runner home to first.

Bryce Parrish, 3B, Whitewater, 2018
6-foot-4, 200-pound third baseman, large frame and build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, leg lift trigger. Bat strength present, path is short into the zone, pull side approach with occasional pop. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays short and over the top, carried at 83 mph. Hands played clean, lower half plays tall at times. 4.88 runner down the line.

Ben Seaman, SS, West Bend East, 2018
Upside frame, wide shoulders, long lanky limbs, projects well, 6-foot-2, 160-pounds infielder. Defensively arm plays loose, high ¾ slot, easy arm strength at 80 mph across the diamond. Hands play, rangy defender, hands and exchange work, fluid footwork. 4.54 runner down the line. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, long stride, average balance. Path is level, slightly uphill at times, hands work, timing can improve. Projectable bat. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Trey Volkman, INF, Milwaukee Lutheran, 2018
5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Hits from a crouched open setup. Path is short, steep to the baseball at times, showed bat speed with line drive approach. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action plays over the top, 80 mph across the diamond. Showed athleticism to play on the move going up the middle. 4.76 runner down the line.
