Stock Report: 2014 MIF Luke Schafer

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Luke Schafer is the epitome of a leader. You can ask any of his coaches at Middleton HS and they would most likely have nothing but positive things to say about the three-sport athlete.

Schafer, a 2014 graduate, plays some of the most demanding positions for the Cardinals. As the quarterback of the football team, point guard on the basketball team and middle infielder/pitcher for the baseball team, he is used to having the ball in his hand with the game on the line.

Tom Schmitt, head baseball coach at Middleton HS, had this to say about the 6-foot, 175-pound Schafer, “He communicates well on the field with his knowledge and leadership characteristics he possesses. He is a gap to gap hitter, who hits with consistent contact.  He is a hard strikeout.  He has above average speed and can run with the best because of his understanding of the game and situation.”

In Schafer’s sophomore season he recorded 35 hits in 27 games for the Cardinals, posting a .368 batting average. His 24 runs scored and 17 RBI with 6 doubles proved to be a catalyst for the Cardinal lineup, hitting out of the leadoff spot.

Greg Reinhard of the GRB Rays is excited to have Schafer in their program. He says, “Luke possesses an athletic frame and is extremely athletic for a middle infielder. Luke has very good hands in the field and his hand-eye coordination at the plate is a strong suit for him. He also is extremely coachable and has the ability to make corrections and changes quickly.”

Obviously, Schafer is an exciting athlete and only looks to get better as you will constantly find him on any field or court working on his game.
