Stock Report: 2015 SS Alex Henwood

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Today’s stock report is on Alex Henwood. Henwood is a 2015 graduate of Appleton North HS who has been slated as the everyday shortstop since his freshman year for the powerhouse Lightning. Coming in as a freshman and starting at one of the more demanding positions on the field is no small task. On top of that Henwood was also recognized as an All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Henwood is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound shortstop. Henwood shows athletic feet defensively as he moves well laterally and plays the ball on the run well. He has also impressed with his foot speed running a 6.87 60. Defensively he shows excellent hands as they play softly and quickly. His arm is also a big asset as he gets rid of the baseball quickly and displays an athletic release at 80 mph across the diamond.

Offensively, Henwood hits out of a slightly open stance and shows as a line drive type hitter with the ability to work both gaps. His path is short to the baseball and shows athleticism and rhythm to his approach at the plate.

Henwood is the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2015 in Wisconsin and should be one of the more highly sought after middle infielders in the region.
