Stock Report: 2015 left handed hiiting Cade Bunnell

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois

When you talk about grinding out at bats to make a pitcher work and achieve a quality at bat, Cade Bunnell (Stoughton, 2015) is the prime example. Bunnell is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound left handed hitting middle infielder and one of the top middle infielders in the class. Hitting from the left side, Bunnell takes some of the best at bats around. He runs counts deeper than anyone else and is not afraid to hit with two strikes. A mature approach from a high school junior is refreshing to see. His bat control is highly advanced giving him the luxury to still hit with two strikes.Cade Bunnell

Defensively Bunnell is as sure handed as anyone else in Wisconsin’s 2015 class and shows advanced actions up the middle. His exchange can get long at times but hands are quick and athletic to make any adjustments necessary on the move. Bunnell also showed arm strength at 78 mph across the diamond. For a top or the lineup type middle infielder that grinds out at bats Bunnell is about as good as it gets in Wisconsin’s 2015 class.

“My goal is to play Division 1 baseball with a program that has a good coaching staff. On top of a staff that I feel will help make me a better baseball player, I am looking for a program with excellent facilities. I am also looking for a University that has good programs for the course of study I am interested in,” said Bunnell.

Bunnell is still looking at colleges and wants to make the best possible decision he can. He said,

“I do not have a set timetable in making a decision, but ultimately I am willing to commit at any time. I just need to find a school that is a good fit and that shows interest in me.”

Bunnelll was a big part of the Stoughton success in 2013. Stoughton reached the State Tournament for the first time in 27 years and Bunnell played a huge role in that. He went 4-for-4 and got the win on the mound against Beloit Memorial in the Sectional Championship, sending Stoughton to Appleton. Bunnell also earned all-conference accolades at shortstop after his stellar year.
