WIAA Semifinals Milwaukee Lutheran Advances to State Title Game.

By Spencer Flaten

APPLETON, WI- The Milwaukee Lutheran Red Knights advanced to the Division 2 state championship game with a 1-0 win over West Salem in the semifinals on Wednesday night.

The game saw two fantastic pitchers go head to head, and the result was about what you would expect.

Nick Winter was on the mound for Milwaukee Lutheran, while West Salem sent Adam Klos out to the bump.

Neither offense really stood a chance for most of the game. The aces matched each other blow for blow for the first 5 innings. Winter took a no-hitter into the 5th, while Klos was dealing a 2-hitter into the 5th.

The Red Knights did manage to break through in the bottom of the 5th. Sam Dekker singled to lead off the inning, and he was sacrificed over to center. Christian Gerner knocked a single to left field to give Milwaukee Lutheran the lead and Winter all the insurance he would need.

The Panthers stranded a man on first base in the 7th and Winter completed the shutout.

Winter pitched a complete game with only one hit allowed and struck out 8. Klos went 6 innings and allowed 5 hits and struck out 10.

Gerner finished the game 1-for-3 with the only RBI of the contest. Ethan Severson had the sole hit for West Salem.

Milwaukee Lutheran will face either Notre Dame or River Valley in the state championship at 3 PM on Thursday.
