Wisconsin Class Of 2017 Rankings Updated

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2017 class in Wisconsin has had big shoes to fill after seeing an impressive 2016 class go out with a bang in their senior year. Not as highly touted of a graduating class in the state, this spring an early summer we have seen vast improvements and added depth to the class.

Expanding the rankings to 125, we’ve added 24 newcomers to the rankings and seen several rising stocks this summer.

Inside the top ten, Jacob Lindemann (Burlington) moved up to the No. 2 spot after some impressive outings down the stretch in the state tournament and early showing this summer. Lindemann looks to be answering any command issues he may have raised in the past. He’s commanding his fastball at the bottom of the zone and showing improved feel for his curveball.

Auburn commit, RHP Ryan Hoerter (Indian Trail) makes a big jump from No. 9 to No. 4. Hoerter is fulfilling all of the projections put on him at an early age and looks to may be even surpassing what some thought his ceiling was. His fastball is sitting in the upper 80’s with regularity and paired with swing and miss action out of his curveball. Zach Clayton (Oconomowoc) climbed a pair of notches this year as his bat looks to really be coming along this summer. At 6-foot-2, 210-pound his bat is profiling into a power type gap to gap hitter with improved actions defensively both at third base and in the outfield.

More notable risers this summer include OF Tanner Smith (Kettle Moraine), OF Cameron Cratic (Madison East), RHP Thomas Ginther (Baraboo), C Kyle Kosobucki (West De Pere) and OF Matt McNabb (West De Pere).

Smith and Cratic are putting their left-handed bats on display this summer, cracking the top 25. Smith may have the loudest left-handed bat in the class and Cratic is a projectable athletic outfielder whose bat can play at the top of a lineup.
