Thursday March 28

St. Ignatius (IL) 9, La Follete 8

Twelve hits weren't enough for La Follette Lancers as it lost in a shootout, 9-8, to St. Ignatius on Thursday at University of Illinois-Chicago.

Even though senior pitcher Michael Manus allowed five runs over four innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered nine hits.

St. Ignatius jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chris Costello singled to ignite St. Ignatius' offense. Will Payne doubled, plating Costello. St. Ignatius then tacked on more runs when scoring on an error and an RBI triple by Anthony Rosalez.

La Follete broke out in the fifth as Nate Teuscher and Jerrod Matthews both recorded triples and scored runs. Jordan Carlson and Tanner Maier each added RBI singles to put up a four spot in the inning.

The Lancers of La Follette brought home one run in the sixth inning, and matched that run total in the eighth. In the sixth, La Follette scored on an RBI single by Fernando Espinosa, bringing home Riley Anderson.

St. Ignatius answered La Follette’s top inning with two runs of its own in the sixth. St. Ignatius scored on an RBI double by Andrew Fialkowski.

The game's last lead went to St. Ignatius thanks to a eighth inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on a two-run double by Charlie Braman and an RBI single by Fialkowski.

Saturday March 30

Beloit Turner 8, Marshall 0

The Marshall Cardinals lost 8-0 to Beloit Turner Saturday despite Austin Martinez's two-hit day at the dish.

Bryce Reige handled Beloit Turner's lineup with ease, racking up three strikeouts. Reige allowed two earned runs, six hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings.

Clayton Stenulson got the win for Beloit Turner. He pitched five shutout innings. Stenulson struck out eight, walked two and gave up three hits.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Beloit Turner scored two runs on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Bo Hutchison.
