Weekend Roundup: April 5-6

Friday April 5

Milwaukee Riverside 4, Brookfield Academy 2

Milwaukee Riverside beat Brookfield Academy 4-2 in seven innings on Friday at the Metrodome behind the pitching of Anthony Desarden.

Desarden was a workhorse on the mound while bagging the win for the Tigers. Desarden allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings of work.

The top of the first saw Brookfield Academy take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Jake Kolasinski, scoring Liam Dooley started the inning off.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a two-run single by Yeidel Garcia.

The Tigers brought home one more run in the second inning, and matched that run total in the third.

Sam Meier recorded two hits for the Blue Knights

Sullivan North (TN) 3, Union Grove 2

Sam Schaefer did all he could to give Union Grove a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Sullivan North (TN), as the Broncos lost 3-2 in eight innings in Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday.

Adam Filz went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run for the Broncos.

Sam Schaefer put together a nice outing. Schaefer held Sullivan North hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four.

Watertown 7, Milwaukee Lutheran 0

Milwaukee Lutheran didn't have a chance on Friday, as Watertown won in blowout fashion, 7-0 in seven innings at Washington Park in Watertown.

The Goslings started the onslaught scoring two runs in the fourth on a groundout by Aaron Kumbier and an RBI single by Carson Weber.

Milwaukee Lutheran couldn't get anything going as long as John Tesensky was on the mound. Milwaukee Lutheran managed just one hit off of Tesensky, who allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out six during his six innings of work.

The Goslings went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Tesensky and a wild pitch.

Jake Larkin also went 1-for-3 for Watertown with a double and two RBI.

Milwaukee Lutheran freshmen Ryan Selner and James Wright recorded the only two hits for the Red Knights.

Badger 13, East Troy 2

Badger blew out East Troy 13-2 on Friday at home after pouring on nine runs in the sixth inning.

Eric Skipper paced Badger at the plate. Skipper went 3-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the second and third innings and doubled in the fifth inning.

East Troy couldn't do much against the Badger pitching staff. Colton Andresen held East Troy hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Sun Prairie 10, Beloit Memorial 5

Brian Assalone collected three hits and scoring three runs, helping the Sun Prairie Cardinals to a 10-5 victory over Beloit Memorial on Friday at Telfer Park.

The bottom of the second saw Beloit Memorial take an early lead, 2-0.

Sun Prairie took the lead shortly after thanks to a third inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Zach Fairchild, an RBI single by Michael Marchese,

The Cardinals piled on two more runs in the top of the fourth. A sacrifice fly scored Assalone to get the Cardinals on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Michael Garvey's single, bringing home Carter Brekke.

Sun Prairie tacked on another four runs in the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Brekke doubled, bringing home Conner Funnell and Assalone to kick things off. That was followed up by Fairchild's double, scoring Brekke.

Big Foot 3, McFarland 0

The Big Foot Chiefs and McFarland both had scoring chances on Friday, but it was Big Foot who was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out a 3-0 win at Big Foot.

McFarland had six hits compared to Big Foot’s four, but McFarland stranded 11 runners on base.

It was a good day at the plate for the Chiefs’ Carter Hehr. Carter Hehr went 2-3 and scored two runs. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Austin Hoey got the win for Big Foot thanks to 10 strikeouts. Hoey tossed seven innings of shutout ball and scattered six hits.

West De Pere 12, Wrightstown 2

West De Pere brought their bats on Friday, downing Wrightstown 12-2 in six innings.

Senior Chris Snell led the attack for the Phantoms, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Alex Nockerts led the Wrightstown offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game. He singled in the fifth inning.

Aaron Fink got the win in relief for West De Pere. Fink pitched two innings and allowed no runs.

West De Pere's Chris Snell, Garrett Willems, Brad Pierre and Jake VandenLangenberg combined for five hits and four RBI.

Oregon 3, Monroe 0

Mitch Riese did all he could to give the Cheesemakers a chance, but it wasn't enough to get past Oregon, as Monroe Cheesemakers Varsity lost 3-0 in seven innings at Oregon on Friday.

Riese was hot from the plate for Monroe. Riese went 2-for-4. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

The game was never in doubt after the second, as Oregon scored two runs on an error and an RBI single by Pierce Peterson.

Junior Logan Laski picked up the win for Oregon as he went six strong innings, scattering five hits and one walk. He also struck out five.

St. Mary Central 12, Sevastopol 0

Sevastopol fell 12-0 to St Mary Central at Menasha on Friday.

It was a good day at the plate for Sevastopol Pioneers Varsity's Rustom Engineer. Engineer went 1-2. He doubled in the first inning.

St Mary Central couldn't get anything going as long as Drew Tanck was on the mound. Tanck held St Mary Central hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out seven.

However the Zephyrs put 11 runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 12-0 victory.

Richard VandenBranden picked up the win for the Zephyrs tossing four innings of three hit baseball recording eight strikeouts.

Wausau West 6, Eau Claire Memorial 4

The Old Abe's lost 6-4 in seven innings at Wausau West High School on Friday, despite outhitting Wausau West 10 to seven.

Dustin Gordon recorded the win for Wausau West. He allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked two and surrendered eight hits.

The top of the first saw Eau Claire Memorial take an early lead, 1-0. The Old Abe's' rally started when Nick Pedersen singled. A single by Drew Davis then moved Pedersen from first to third. Justin Lund singled, plating Pedersen.

Wausau West stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring four runs on an error and two singles.

One run in the top of the fifth helped the Old Abe's close its deficit to 5-2. An error sparked the Old Abe rally. But, Gordon got Tyler Black to fly out to end the inning.

Eau Claire Memorial tried to climb back, scoring runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but fell short 6-4.

Saturday April 6

Waterloo 8, East Troy 7

East Troy fell short losing 8-7 to Waterloo after scoring five runs in the sixth. Connor Mitchell’s 2-for-2 day wasn’t enough for the Trojans to get past Waterloo High School.

Mitchell went a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish for East Troy, doubling in the first inning and adding a  single in the seventh inning.

Curtis Cook got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out eight, walked three and surrendered three hits.

Waupun 10, Portage 3

The Waupun Warriors pounded Portage on Saturday 10-3 at The Gus in seven innings.

Jordan Daane hit a two run homer in the fourth inning for the Warriors which put the game out of reach for Portage.

Junior Arik Tavs gave up only one hit to Portage over five innings of work. Tavs also sat down eight Portage hitter via the strikeout.

Waupun increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. Jared Larsen kicked things off with a single, scoring Casey Ausloos and Sam Lenz. That was followed up by Daane's two-run home run, scoring Larsen.

Big Foot 18, Williams Bay 0

Big Foot refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Williams Bay, recording an 18-0 victory on Saturday.

With 10 runs in the first three innings, the Chiefs left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

Brett Morris shut down Williams Bay while he was on the mound. Morris gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out eight during his 4 1/3 innings of work.

Big Foot easily handled Williams Bay pitching as seven hitters combined for 11 hits, 12 RBI and 16 runs scored. Chandler Hehr had a 2-for-3 day with three RBI leading the way for the Chiefs.

Big Foot 12, Williams Bay 2

Williams Bay had a tough outing on Saturday, as Big Foot dominated in a 12-2 win in six innings.

Chiefs’ Carter Hehr was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. He singled in the first and third innings and tripled in the sixth inning.

Brandon Hausner handled Williams Bay's lineup with ease, racking up six strikeouts. The Big Foot pitcher tossed five innings of shutout ball scattering six hits.

Big Foot Chiefs Varsity didn't relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the second inning when it scored on a groundout by Austin Hoey.

Big Foot built upon its lead with three runs in the fourth. Jon Quick tripled, plating Servando Perez to start the inning. That was followed up by Tim Long's single, scoring Quick.

The Chiefs got four-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings.

Lake Country Lutheran 10, Palmyra-Eagle 0

BJ Sabol was strong at the plate and on the bump carrying the Lake Country Lutheran Lightning to a 10-0 victory over Palmyra-Eagle on Saturday.

Sabol racked up three RBI on two hits for the Lightning. He singled in the second and fifth innings.

Sabol struck out 11 hitters en route to the Lake Country Lutheran win. The Lightning pitcher tossed five innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.

The Lightning offense hung five spots in the second and fifth innings to secure the 10-0 win.

Palmyra Eagle 6, Lake Country Lutheran 0

Palmyra-Eagle rode the hot pitching hand of Eugene Sweno to secure the 6-0 win over Lake Coutry Lutheran.

Sweno tossed a two hit shutout over seven innings. Sweno also walked three and struck out four.

Palmyra-Eagle increased its lead with two runs in the third. Bryce Boos's single got things going, scoring Neubauer. That was followed up by Brandon Schultz's single, bringing home Woolridge.

Palmyra-Eagle added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The inning got off to a hot start when Sallis singled, plating Neubauer. That was followed up by Roscizewski's single, scoring Sallis.

Brookfield Academy 6, St. Thomas More 2

Brookfield Academy beat St. Thomas More 6-2 in seven innings on Saturday behind Nate Stolte, who had three RBI.

Jake Kolasinski shut down St. Thomas More while he was on the bump. St. Thomas More managed just three hits off of Kolasinski, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out two during his six innings of work.

The Blue Knights got two-run rallies in the second inning and the fifth. In the second, Brookfield Academy Blue Knights Varsity scored on an error, bringing home Spencer Francis.

After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, St. Thomas More faced just a 4-1 deficit.

It didn't take long for Brookfield Academy to respond as it scored two runs of its own in the fifth.

St. Thomas More’s seventh inning rally came up short, only pushing across one run.

Indian Trail 5, St. Catherines 2

The St. Catherine's Angels built an early edge on Saturday, but Indian Trail roared back to steal a 5-2 victory.

Shey Smith led the Angels’ offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI, tripling in the first inning.

The bottom of the first saw the St. Catherine's Angels Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. The Angels threat began with a single by AJ Kaprelian. A passed ball then moved Kaprelian from first to second. Smith tripled, scoring Kaprelian. Another run crossed when Smith scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Weisbrod.

The lead stayed with Indian Trail Academy after the fifth, when it scored one run on an RBI single by Hoerter.

St. Catherines 11, Indian Trail 6

After a big eight run inning in Saturday's game at Horlick Field, the St. Catherine's Angels finally pulled out a 11-6 win over Indian Trail Academy.

The key fifth-inning rally gave St. Catherine's the lead for good. The Angels tacked on a total of eight runs on three singles, three bases loaded walks, and a wild pitch.

Eric Weisbrod led the attack for the Angels going 3-for-4 on the day. The senior outfielder also scored a run and drove in three RBI.

East Troy 7, Waterloo 3

Troy Ambrose went 2-for-2, helping East Troy to a 7-2 victory over Waterloo High School on Saturday.

Mitchell Sullivan got it done on the mound for the win. He allowed two runs over seven innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered 10 hits.

The Trojans didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the first inning when it scored on an RBI single by Connor Mitchell and a walk by Sam Walters.

Josh Oswald got three hits for the Trojans, scoring two runs and adding an RBI.

Onalaska 9, Eau Claire Memorial 5

Jake Sparger did all he could to give Eau Claire Memorial a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Onalaska, as the Old Abe's lost 9-5 in seven innings at Onalaska Legion Field on Saturday.

Sparger had a hot bat for Memorial. Sparger went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.

The top of the first saw the Old Abe's take an early lead, 1-0. After Sparger doubled, Drew Davis doubled, scoring Sparger.

Onalaska survived the Old Abe' surge and put up one run of its own in the first. Onalaska scored on a groundout by Jack Smalley.

Onalaska never trailed after scoring five runs in the third on an RBI double by Logan Adams, a fielder's choice, a groundout by Alex Teal, and a two-run single by Stephen Chestnut.
