The buzz on Will Doherty's recruiting process

Currently the No. 35 ranked player in the state, Will Doherty (Wisconsin Heights, 2014) is a strong bodied 6-foot-1, 175-pound catcher. Doherty is a defensive first catcher, back in March we saw Doherty show excellent accuracy to second base, with carry, at 74 mph out of the crouch. He posted 2.04-2.12 pop times, while also running a 4.26 home to first.Will Doherty

Offensively he hits from a balanced stance using a minimal stride while his lower half is partial involved. His bat path is flat with some extension, recording 78 mph exit velocity from the tee.

We recently caught up with the backstop and asked him about his recent recruiting process.

PBR:  What schools have expressed interest in you?

Doherty: Lawrence, Marian, Wisconsin Lutheran, Ripon, Northland, Carroll, Edgewood, Elmira, Elmhurst, Dubuque, Central, Purdue Calumet, Carleton, Dartmouth, and other letters.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Doherty: Lawrence, Marian, Wisconsin Lutheran all in the last month or so. Ripon and Elmhurst will be soon.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Doherty: I am thinking of going into engineering or something in the math or science fields.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Doherty: I batted .500 with a .660 OB%, 16 extra base hits, 16 walks and 40 RBI. I was Capitol South Conference Player of the Year, All District, and All District Academic.  We won Regionals and then lost our first game in sectionals.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Doherty: To win state with my high school team. To repeat as player of the year and be all state catcher. 

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Doherty: I play summer ball in a home talent league with current and former college players. In the fall I am playing with the Wisconsin national all-stars

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Doherty: Soccer and basketball

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Doherty: 28 and a 3.9 out of 4.0
