Wisconsin Class of 2017 Rankings Released

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director – Wisconsin/Illinois

After scouring the state for the best 2017 graduates we can find, we have finally launched our 2017 player rankings.

Still early in the process we have narrowed it down to the top ten prospects we have seen in the state. So far the 2017 class might not compare to the 2016 class but there are several prospects who look to have bright futures down the road.

Leading off the 2017 rankings in the No. 1 spot is Waukesha South catcher Jamie DeWitt. DeWitt has all the tools to be a high level catcher. He has a great frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, a strong arm (79 mph out of the crouch) and the bat speed to hit (85 mph exit velocity).

Right behind DeWitt comes a trio of pitchers – LHP Ben Dragani (Catholic Memorial), RHP Jacob Lindemann (Burlington) and RHP Nolan Rebernick (Union Grove). All three have touched the 80 mph mark which is advanced for a freshman.

Dragani has an incredible upside with command of three pitches and the knowledge to use them far beyond his years. Rebernick is the hardest thrower in the Class of 2017 but lacks the secondary of Dragani and Lindemann.

Augie Mihlbauer rounds out the top five as a left-handed two-way player. Mihlbauer is highly athletic and shows the skill set to possibly play the outfield as well as pitch.

Our Preseason Showcases unveiled a lot of freshman talent but this summer should bring even more, as well as the opportunity to see a lot of these guys in game action.

Here's a look at the top ten freshman in the state.
