OCONTO, WI - The Wrightstown Tigers outlasted the Oconto Blue Devils in a marathon game on Thursday night to come home with a 6-5 extra innings victory.

The Tigers opened the game up with a bang. They pushed four runs across the plate in the first inning and chased Oconto starting pitcher Brandon Laine out of the game after only one inning of work. The scoring output was highlighted by two bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch with a man on third.

The game cruised along between the bottom of the first and bottom of the third innings. Grant Frazer relieved Laine in the second inning and effectively shut down the Tigers’ offense for the entirety of his outing.

The Blue Devils roared back in the bottom of the third with three runs of their own. Brandon Bahde drove in two runs with a single to center field and Harry Hintz chipped in with an RBI single of his own.

Again, the bats for both teams went relatively quiet for a couple of innings until Oconto was able to push a run across via a designed first and third base running play in the bottom of the fifth to tie up the game.

The tie was immediately broken by Wrightstown in the top of the sixth. Alan Barta doubled in a run to help the Tigers regain the lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Frazer tied the game up at five runs apiece with a sacrifice fly for Oconto.

Wrightstown loaded the bases in the eighth inning and got a man in scoring position in the ninth but failed to capitalize on both opportunities. Oconto had a chance of their own to end the game in the ninth with a man on second and only one out, but they also failed to score.

In the top of the tenth, Barta came up in the clutch with a solo home run to left field to give Wrightstown a 6-5 lead. He promptly shut down Oconto on the mound in the bottom of the frame to secure the win for the Tigers.

Frazer pitched four innings for the Blue Devils, allowed only one hit, and tallied five strikeouts. Hunter Kussow started the game on the mound for Wrightstown and pitched four innings during which he gave up four earned runs and struck out two. Barta went the rest of the way for the Tigers on the mound and limited Oconto to two hits and one unearned run.

Bahde led the way for the Blue Devils at the plate. He went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and three stolen bases. Barta was the top run producer for the Tigers. He also finished 2-for-5 (both hits were for extra bases) on the day with two RBIs and a walk.

The game gave both teams a feel for non-conference action, which is vital in the playoffs. Oconto earned the #3 seed in their Division 3 regional and will host Gillett/Suring next Tuesday in their first postseason game. Wrightstown claimed the #4 seed in their Division 2 regional and will host #5 seed Chilton on Tuesday.
