2014 Team Preview: Wheeling Central Catholic HS

As we prepare for the upcoming 2014 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Team: Wheeling Central Catholic
Nickname: Maroon Knights
Class: 1A
League: OVAC
Head Coach: Jimbo Wadusky
2013 Overall Record: 10-18 (Lost in region semi-finals)
Returning Starters: 7

TOP PLAYERS:

Mario Peroni, LHP (Class of 2014)
Nate Bakaitas, UTIL (Class of 2015)
Bryan Campbell, OF/RHP (Class of 2016)

SEASON OUTLOOK:  

The Maroon Knights return all but two starters from last year's region semi-finals squad. Although the roster is still filled with underclassmen, many of those players gained valuable varsity innings during last year's 10 win season.

ACCORDING TO THE COACH:

"We will have a young team with good athletes. Inexperience could be a weakness. Good athletes who are willing to learn is our strength. This team is a lot like last year, just a year older. We only lost two guys. Our expectations never change, we work towards our goal of winning everything."
