Junior Spotlight: 2B Hunter White

Hunter WhiteThere is an old adage in sports that goes, "Sometimes its not what you do, but when you do it". Hebert Hoover 2B Hunter White put that theory to the test in the Huskies' state semifinal Class AA playoff game against Independence on Thursday night.

Herbert Hoover trailed Independence 3-2 entering the bottom of the 7th inning, but sent five hitters to the plate in the inning leading to a dramatic finish. Hoover had tied the game on a Corey Bird double and had the bases loaded when Hunter came to the plate with an opportunity to win the game. White decided to leave little doubt with a drawn in outfield and launched a game winning, walk-off grand slam to left field that vaulted the Huskies into Saturday's Class AA championship game opposite Fairmont Senior.

On Saturday, White singled and scored in a six run rally for Hoover in the 6th inning that helped the Huskies down Fairmont Senior to win the West Virginia Class AA championship. Over the course of the two games at the state tournament, White went 3-for-8 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI.

The 6-foot, 180-pound 2B/RHP will be among the top returning starters on Hoover's roster in 2014 and will be a player to watch in this class.
