Preseason Elite Eight: Top Eight Teams in Each Class (No. 8)

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

In the spirit of March Madness the first rendition of the Prep Baseball Report Elite Eight Rankings are being released this week. We will be counting up to No. 1 with one new team in each classification being released each day until we unveil the No. 1 team in each. Following is a look at the teams ranked No. 8 in their respective classes.

class a:  No. 8 - South Harrison

Look for South Harrison to be the most improved club in Region II. A talented core of sophomores and juniors, and 15 returning varsity players make the Hawks a team to keep an eye on in 2014.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Jessy Miller, 3B/RHP (Class of 2015)
Braeden Hurst, SS/RHP (Class of 2016)
Jacob Montgomery, 1B/LHP (Class of 2016)
Ian Riggleman, OF/RHP (Class of 2016)

class Aa:  No. 8 - Sissonville

If a team is going to unseat Hoover in Region IV this year as region champion Sissonville has the best chance. The Indians will have to replace Zach Null (.489, 5-5, 2.62 ERA), but return nearly everyone else on their roster.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Dominic Walker, C/OF/3B (Class of 2014)
Houston Hill, 3B/1B (Class of 2015)
J.R. Stricklen, 3B/C (Class of 2015)
Jacob Fisher, 2B/OF (Class of 2016)
Josh Landis, C/SS (Class of 2016)

class aAA:  No. 8 - parkersburg

With the majority of their lineup that hit almost .320 as a team last year returning, Parkersburg is likely to be in the hunt provided they can find enough pitching. RHP/OF Logan Dudley, who hit .410 in 2013, will likely be counted on for additional innings on the mound.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Levi Casto, OF/RHP (Class of 2014)
Jeff Davis, RHP/SS, (Class of 2014)
Logan Dudley, 3B/RHP (Class of 2014)
Kyle Foster, OF/3B (Class of 2014)
Anthony Kist, RHP/2B (Class of 2014)
Cole Parker, 3B/RHP (Class of 2015)
