Sophomore Spotlight: SS/RHP Drew Lett

Drew LettDoddridge County HS suffered through a 6-20 season and a 15 game losing streak during the course of the 2013 season. Through the course of the difficult campaign freshman Drew Lett emerged as a prospect with a great deal of promise.

The 6-foot-2, 160-pound SS/RHP hit .420 with 17 RBI and 13 runs scored. Lett showcased his athleticism and some foot speed stealing 18 bases in 18 attempts. The two-way prospect also went 1-4 on the mound with a 4.99 ERA in 33.2 innings of work.

While his numbers on the mound were not overwhelming, Lett's future could be on the mound. He has a long frame that should fill out in time. He was one of the more interesting pitchers over the course of the first two weekends of the Fall College Prospect Program. He displayed repeatable mechanics out of a high 3/4 arm slot and sat 79-81 with some arm side run to his fastball. He was hesitant to utilize his 71 mph curveball and did not showcase a changeup. His loose arm action indicates additional velocity is in store and with the development of his complimentary pitches Lett will be an interesting follow in this class.

Currently ranked No. 16 in the WV Class of 2016, Lett should see additional work as a pitcher in 2014 following the graduation of four seniors that totaled 44 innings on the mound. The talented sophomore will also showcase his two-way abilities next summer in the inaugural West Virginia Top Prospect Games.
