WV Notebook: Looking Back on the Summer

The West Virginia Open ID Showcase took place on July 16 at Alderson-Broaddus University marking the first event in the history of PBR West Virginia. A total of 26 prospects from West Virginia and Pennsylvania showcased their talents for college coaches and PBR staff.

Among the top performers were RHP Shane Ennis (Hampshire HS, Class of 2014) and C/3B Zach Minnick (Logan HS, Class of 2015). The two prospects displayed why they are ranked No. 1 in the West Virginia Class of 2014 and 2015 rankings respectively.

The success of the WV Open ID Showcase is beginning to become evident. To date, seven of the 26 prospects in attendance have announced their college commitments or have signed their National Letter of Intent. All of the commitments come from the Class of 2014 with SS Jimmy Galusky's commitment to West Virginia University this week being the most recent. Following is a look at the committed prospects from the event.

Additional prospects that attended the West Virginia Open ID Showcase are likely to announce commitments in the near future. Following is a look at several highly ranked prospects from West Virginia that have announced their commitments to Division I schools during the course of the summer and fall. 

OF Luca Fuscardo (Weirton Madonna HS)

Fuscardo is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound OF/LHP from Weirton Madonna HS. He sits in the low 80's off the mound and runs a sub-7.0 60-yard dash. Fuscardo is ranked No. 7 in West Virginia and No. 303 in the PBR combined rankings. He committed to Kent State University.

OF Dylan Frye (Ritchie County HS)

Frye is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound OF that hit .420 with 26 RBI in 2012. He followed that up by hitting .407 with 47 runs scored in 2013 being named to the honorable mention AA All-State team. Frye is ranked No. 13 in the WV Class of 2014 and committed to Coastal Carolina.

SS/RHP Logan Goodnight (The Linsly School)

Goodnight is a 6-1, 165-pound prospect that hit .371 as a varsity starter as a freshman in 2013. Goodnight was also named to the WWBA 16U All-Tournament team in July 2013 as a member of the Chandler Baseball program. During the course of the tournament he went 6-for-16 with four doubles and four RBI. Goodnight is ranked No. 1 in the WV Class of 2016 and has committed to Penn State University.

The success of this initial event is sure to lead to a very talented roster of prospects next summer for the inaugural WV Top Prospect Games. The event will showcase six teams of prospects from several states and will take place August 9 and 10 at the YMCA Kennedy Center Field in Huntington, WV.
