Murphy is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound Left-hander with a large frame and an average body. He uses a quick loose arm from a ¾ arm slot. He comes to an average balance point with normal effort in his delivery. He maintains smooth rhythm and finishes with extension to home plate. His fastball is 85-87 mph with slight run. His slider is his best pitch, it is thrown 75-77 mph with late action and 2/8 shape. He did not throw a change up.

4/18/18 - 6’0/200, Junior- Strong bodied lefty with three-pitch mix and high pitchability. Had a perfect game for six-plus innings before allowing a leadoff single in the seventh. Works consistently at a slower pace from the far third base side of the rubber. Repeated his delivery very well. Full arm path in back to a high three-quarters slot. Average arm speed and extension out front. Maintained his fastball velocity of 87-90 mph throughout his six innings, 70 pitches. Worked to both sides of the plate, keeping it consistently down in the zone while also running it away from right handed hitters. Showed plus fastball command as he would elevate when needed. Spotted his 79-82 mph slider to both doors, front and back. Showed very good feel with the pitch as he’s able to manipulate the shape of the pitch a bit depending upon what he’s trying to accomplish. Was consistently down in the zone all day with this pitch, except his last...which was the lone base hit he allowed. The third pitch in his repertoire was a 78-82 mph changeup. Overall, he threw any pitch in any count. With his high pitchability, he can challenge hitters, pitch them backward or nibble when he wants. On the day, Murphy struck out six batters while inducing nine flyouts and three groundouts. His below average fastball velocity likely keeps him out of the top rounds, but his pitchability and repeatable delivery should see him selected around the fifth-to-seventh rounds this June.
